At this rate, i could be a great-great grandmother when i finally die.
My 22 year old, married granddaughter had an adorable child last year. Now the marriage is kaputt, but she took up with another loser and now is pregnant.
I am stunned. Is this why we marched for women's liberation? Birth control? Abortion rights?
Obviously not.
I should be happy, but I am worried. Our genetic material is quite compromised. And her choice of partners does not reflect well on thoughtfulness or foresight.
Don't worry. The little child will be well received . The family will be supported by everyone, and maybe this one will grow up to find the cure for carelessness and cancer.

With our adult children and grandchildren, all we can do is give good advice when asked and show them love and support, especially when they mess up. I know you will be there for the new great grandchild and the rest of the family, but I can understand your concern and frustration.

I hear your frustrations. This group will be supportive and we'll call you out where needed.

5 generations is not common. 30 years ago, I worked with someone who had grand parents and grandchildren.

It seems there is a pattern or cycle of women having kids young in your family... As for birth control, women are highly susceptible to pregnancy right after their first pregnancy soo for all we know her BC may have failed.... unless she confided in you or someone in the fam that she used no BC, that is.

What do you mean by "our genetic material is quite compromised"?

I'm glad you will be so welcoming to the baby, whether they do anything amazing or not. My sister in law has several children with various fathers, some of which are around and some are not. My mother in law adopted one of her own grandchildren to at least raise her in a stable environment, which is great. Theres way too much tragedy in careless, "me first" family structures

From my side, there is Type 1 diabetes and lupus. Some blood abnormalites. I had my tubes tied to prevent further pregnancies when each child was born with stronger possibiliies of brain damage from ABO incompatibility.
My granddaughter will have to realize that her decisions have far reaching consequences. I am afraid for the children and the children's children.

I understand you feeling the way you do.
It is heartbreaking and maddening to watch young women make terrible
mistakes in judgment. Especially when those mistakes in judgment bring more
innocent life into this messed up world.
It's amazing how many huge mistakes we make in our youth.
Hopefully, we learn from them. Unfortunately, many of us do not.

That said, I have absolutely NO doubt that you will continue to be wonderful
grandmother, and great-grandmother.
You are allowed to vent, and not be judged, by anyone.

I became a grandmother at 48. Not under the best circumstances and I raised my granddaughter for 4 years. People make bad choices and all you can do is be there for them. Help the babies since they need it the most.

It is very hard sometimes to remain quiet while our offspring make choices we'd rather they didn't make. All you can do is love them and try not to bite a hole in your tongue.

Oh yes, you said it, HippieChick !

@hippiechick58 I love my grown adult children. I really struggle to believe they have any of my dna.

@Bigwavedave Oh honey, there were days I had my doubts except I popped them all out, and two of them look just like me. I have had more than one day that I asked how did I possibly hatch you? I blame the other side of the family, but then my side had (and has) some oddballs too.
