I’d say this is pretty on target when it comes to God and his character:

In the Bible Satan doesn't kill anyone.....but God kills many, many people . God promises to kill Billions when Jesus Christ returns. It is a great story....the greatest story ever told....but it is a fable, a fraud, a fairy tale.

Yep: Time to renew my membership in the Satanic Temple ...

I laughed up a lung watching that movie.

I don't see the problem myself. I do what I want, the "right thing." What's the "wrong thing?" Whatever I don't want to do.
Period.

Could someone kindly explain why we are still talking about this pair of rivals?

Because of the incredulity we feel (well me anyway) that they are taken so seriously by otherwise rational, intelligent people. It’s the ultimate mind freak to me. And I doubt I will ever get my head around it. But talking about it with others of like mind (with most people of like mind at any rate) somehow serves as a sort of elixir that helps me live around those that do hold to these fairytales as a life guide.

@Truthseeker1968 That IS an explanation but Humans are capable of so much that is wrong for the race.

not everyone who worships a god worships the same god, and even within the same texts one god may be of a different character. since at any rate there are no gods, i don't see the point of criticizing one god or another. it's like criticizing bambi, or santa claus, except there is only one bambi, and only a small number of santa clauses (depending on where you live and who you are). i don't worry too much about it.

What criticism?

@Truthseeker1968 the review of his character rofl!

g

@genessa Yes. The clip was a review of his character. Where was the criticism?

@Truthseeker1968 i give up. you can't tell? even from the beginning? "god likes to watch. he's a prankster. he gives you all these.. gifts. and then... for his own amusement... he sets the rules in opposition. it's the goof of all times." i don't have to transcribe the whole thing, do i?

g

@genessa Oh. Those aren’t criticisms. It’s like saying that Bambi is a deer is a criticism. Not a criticism.

@Truthseeker1968 um, yes, it is. now, don't get me wrong, there is a lot to criticize, and it isn't improper to do so if you believe such a creature as a god exists. my complaint isn't that the god in question isn't deserving of criticism. it's just irrelevant to someone who doesn't believe in any gods.

g

@genessa It’s not relevant to what you and I believe genessa. All of us on this site pretty much know where each other stands on the existence of God. The relevance lies in the incredulity that there are those that do believe in this fictional character. There are those that believe in a god with the characteristics that are laid out in that video clip. That is the god of the Bible. No two ways about it as far as I am concerned. Whether believers want to see it or not is completely beside the point. If you spend enough time entrenched in the study of the Bible and you approach that study donned with intellectual honesty you will clearly see it. And I guess I need to go the extra length and say no I do not know if the god of the Bible would really be up there laughing. I can only say that I would hope that in the fairytale that is the Bible he is not.

And I cannot get passed, probably never will, the notion that grown ass adults who are otherwise very bright and rational people hold to this farcical character and story. That is the central message of my post.

@Truthseeker1968 i have no intention of wasting my time studying anyone's bible, not the christian one for sure, and only the hebrew one (not to be confused with the old testament) only when i need to correct someone's misapprehensions. so my intellectual honesty will be spent elsewhere!

g

@genessa pretty sure you have totally missed my point which is probably on me for failing to elucidate what I was saying. But it’s not important and really holds no value. You and I are free from the shackles of religion. We are free to accept and love those who do not think like we do. That is something of great value. That is something to celebrate. I did enjoy our discussion. See you on down the road.

@genessa But is NOT the 'comprehension' of ANY religious book merely based SOLEY upon the INTERPRETATIONS of the reader of that book?
Is it not precisely and exactly how ANY Priest, Rabbi, Teacher, Politician, etc, etc, can get his/her own 'leanings' across to others and embed them into their minds?

@Triphid well yeah! that sort of supports my point lol
