Four of the afghans that I knitted this winter!

Who else worked on hobbies in the cold weather?

Can you also knit other nationalities? I could quite fancy an Irish or Welsh. 🤣

@MissKathleen It's my favourite occupation.

Hmm . . . I suppose the ones that I have knitted with cables are "Irishian" rather than "afghans."

These are brilliant! Do you ever fall asleep on them and have strange dreams?

I have strange dreams without the bright colors.

@MissKathleen Ha! My sheets are low key, but not my "rainbow" quilts and afghans.

@MissKathleen I bought a queen sized bed a couple of years ago and still haven't bought flannel sheets for it. I need to!

@MissKathleen It will get down to 11 degrees tonight! However, I have two quilts and an afghan on my bed.

@MissKathleen 46? Pfft! At least we haven't had subzero weather for a couple of years and I am soooooooo glad to be able to work from home.

@MissKathleen You win!

@MissKathleen Would you two stop it? !! I'm cold! I'm always cold. It could be seventy five and I'm still cold. About this time of the year, I consider lighting my feet on fire!!

@MissKathleen, @Gwendolyn2018 I can't feel my feet.........!!!!!

@Gwendolyn2018, @MissKathleen That "lady from the North"? You should have killed and eaten her. Just to obtain some arrogance. How dare her? Oh,,,,you're a veggie aren't you? Nevermind.

@MissKathleen Believe it or not, feeling cold is subjective--or perhaps it is based on biology. When I lost 100 pounds, my hands and feet were constantly cold even in mildly cold weather; I lived on the north coast of CA then, and the winters were nothing like what they are here in MO. I had to put them in hot water to warm up. I am sure it was the weight loss.

My mother was ALWAYS cold and as I have aged, the cold bothers me more and more. When I was young, I wouldn't wear a hat or coat. I still don't like wearing them, but I layer in sweaters and sometime, just have to wear a coat.

About 12 years ago, I lived in a summer house through the winter and it got 8 below. I have never been so cold in my life, but the heating was inadequate and there would nothing I could do. Kinda like Scarlett O'Hara, I swore to never be so cold again.

And I was teasing with the "Pffft" and would never tell you that YOU are not cold. It's just that 11 degrees is a lot colder than 46 degrees.

I work on knitting, crochet, and quilting projects all year long, and other projects. Haven't done as much lately, a bit too busy.

School has been slow and I took advantage of the slowness. I have papers coming in next week, so I will have less time.

I knitted three Canadians this winter too. I hope they are ok.

You knitted Canadians? May I have the pattern?

@Gwendolyn2018 It looks like cheese and ham.

@PondartIncbendog I don't eat pigs, so that is a no go.

@Gwendolyn2018 That's really mean. You shouldn't call Canadians pigs.
Aren't baby pigs cute?

@PondartIncbendog Hey! YOU said "cheese and HAM." Yes, piglets are cute. Pigs are quite smart, and are clean given the resources. I don't eat cows, either.

@Gwendolyn2018 What do Canadians and Crows have in common?

@PondartIncbendog They love hockey.

@Gwendolyn2018 Nope. We never see their young until they are grown.......

@PondartIncbendog I don't get it. Is that dog humor?

@Gwendolyn2018 How are an octopus and a bagpipe different?

@PondartIncbendog I have no idea. I am an English teacher.

@Gwendolyn2018 Bagpipe won't fight back when you jump on them.

@PondartIncbendog Not true! I jumped on a bagpipe once and it hit me upside the head with one of the pipes.

I completed six more piece of woodwork on the wood lathe.
I posted on the general forum.

I refinish furniture and would do woodworking if I were not sure that I would cut off a finger.

Your bowls are beautiful!

@Gwendolyn2018 Thank you so much. Sometimes I'm not sure if I like them. I give them all away after a while to friends. That way I still get to see them.

@PondartIncbendog I have made a few knitted items/quilts with which I was not happy, but I tend to fall in love with my creations. I give them to friends and family, but the thought of selling one to somebody who would not take care of it is distressing!

@Gwendolyn2018 Yep. I gave a guy I know a hand made fishing knife with mother of pearl inlay. He threw it in his toolbox and broke it. I found out later he was a Trumpanzee.
That was it for him. The problem with wood is every grain looks different. No two pieces are alike.

@Gwendolyn2018 Do you do a detailed plan before starting, or just a mental plan?

@PondartIncbendog Dumb Trumpanzee. You should have bitten him.

@PondartIncbendog I sometimes have a mental plan (usually firm for the colors) and sometimes, it is freehand. I knit sweaters, as well, and though I used to plot out designs or follow the designs of others, I have an idea what I want the sweater to be, but I do not write out a plan beforehand.

The same with quilts; I have never made a quilt not of my own design. Some are better planned out than others.

@Gwendolyn2018 I really shouldn't have,,,,the judge said.

@PondartIncbendog The only problem is that you might have gotten rabies from him--or mange.

@Gwendolyn2018 Well, I did get thirty days in the county pound.

@PondartIncbendog Better than 60 days.

Warm yet breathes avoids overheating

Very much so!

I really like the colors. Good work also. Thanks for sharing. I am working on a book. Just giving it a try as I was once told I could not write by a college professor. I hope I am getting better.

We college professors are rather critical. If you want to write a book, write it! If it pleases you, that is all that counts. I have two books in the works, but after grading millions of papers every week, the creative juices are drained.

Color is "everything."

@Gwendolyn2018 What are you writing about? If I can ask.

@dalefvictor I have several chapters of a nonfiction book about the Roman god Mithras finished, several chapters of a semi-autobiographical novel finished, and have completed a fantasy novel that I never have time to revise and edit. I also write academically but that is on a back burner, too. I usually teach six classes at a time, and grading papers is mentally draining.

@Gwendolyn2018 I would think with all the reading your eyes would cross and everything goto a blur. But then you are doing what you like to do, I am sure you are great at it.

@dalefvictor I love teaching the literature courses, but much less the composition courses. I will cut back in a few years and teach three or four instead of six.

@Gwendolyn2018 What literature courses?

@dalefvictor This term, two grad courses in Topics of British Lit (we are reading Beowulf and Gawain this week) and at another school, Intro to Literature. I am also teaching three composition classes.

Beautiful work

Thank you!

Yes she is..........Oh,,,
