I just tell people I'm an atheist all the time. There is nothing for me to fear but fear itself.

Keep it up. Most thinking people will not make simplistic judgments such as. "If you are American you must be ill educated and a bible waving theist." And the ones who do, are the ill educated, who need informing just as much as theists. You are an ambassador for your country, and a good one, even if only on a small stage, and therefore, sorry to say, you do have a personal have a responsibility to keep going.

I proclaim with conviction that ours is a pathetic nation. We are Pakistan but much wealthier. The money funneled to religious donations, alone, would end hunger AND homelessness. Pathetic. Stand up to these people who proclaim religion and humiliate them.

I'm glad I'm not from the US. Religion is just not that much of a big deal here, & it's barely mentioned in the government.
