I am lost too.

Why do anything? As Hume famously asked, how do you give a reason to get from what is to what you ought to do? In this case, how might observations from science tell us why we should listen to the prescriptions of scientists?

Yes, How to bridge the gulf between what is, and what we are... And, by what we are, what we suppose should be. Regarding what is: Religionists believe myths; models of reality that are shown to be contradicted by repeatable facts. Believing these flawed models causes believers to suffer various psychopathic behavioral disorders, and to harm others. Blind faith is dunning.

In Hume's model, we may say that exploring facts, aka thinking, benefits our feelings. Seeking the best model of reality provides the satisfaction of obtaining a model which IS somewhat predictive. And that model is rather better now than in Hume's day.

We see a stark contrast between a godless scientific universe and the idiocy of multifarious religions. We see a stark contrast between the lives of atheists who constantly seek clearer truths, versus the self-satisfied dogmatists who seek to spread their own corrupting lies. For some of the latter, ignorance may be bliss, but for atheists, it is knowledge and wisdom that are enobling.

Taking the cue from these observations, seeking truth, whereever it leads, is seen to be enobling and enriches our life experience. We may offer the truth to others, and the processes for discerning it. We may count ourselves as fortunate to know what we know; if only for the rarity of that experience. It is one thing to have consciousness, but so much more to combine it with actual understanding. Even understanding of what remains unknown is enriching in its own way; we appreciate our ignorance and take it as a challenge to learn still more.

The Moral: Enoble yourself and enrich your experience; help others to do likewise.

@racocn8 A very good piece. It is rare that I copy a piece from agnostic to elsewhere for possible other use. I am all for agnostics being a noble profession.

@Mcflewster Very much thanks for that.

I'm at this place tactically:

No, it is not that time but it is the time of manipulation and lies. Support for the current regime shows this fully. I want no part of it.

Getting rid of "manipulation and lies" MUST be part of any workable tactic.

Curious choice of terminology--Tactics? Depending on the application, tactics can be an 'ugly' term which may evoke campaign-like, if not Machiavellian thinking. If by 'talking tactics' we ever threaten to entertain the notion that the end (or hoped for state) justifies the means (or tactics), you may count me out.

We have put up with too much, but tactics can prevent violence

1

The MAGgots and the Evangelicals are a completely overlapping demographic. Even being exposed as Putin's puppet, the Evangelicals REMAIN wholly supportive of a psychopathic criminal would-be dictator.

Thus, the erosion of Christian affiliation cannot happen fast enough, and remains too slow not to pose an existential threat to everyone else. These supposedly pro-life nut-jobs want Armageddon and Trump will give it to them.

Yeah, tactics should be discussed and implemented.

2

Tactics? Kill older people? I don't think so. These stats do show that as the elder generations pass and the ytoung are born if things go as they are in the United States there will be a huge difference in the religious demographic in the next 30 years. It could be by then that only 30 percent or less identify as religious as opposed to today where it is about 60 percent. Science and education will do the work for us. If we wish to employ tactics it would simply look like education.

This is great news......people are starting to smarten-up and realize religion is a farce...

TACTICS???? We don't need no stinking Tactics? Seems to me things are moving along nicely without having to do anything except just go about our scientific ways and let nature take its course...Society will eventually outgrow religion once they are out-scienced...we are getting close to a breakthrough I believe that will accelerate the shift...patience...JMHO

It is usually lack of tactics that raises the stink. E.g Climate Change.

@Mcflewster but...but...we are talking religion...and the numbers are in our favor...climate change is going the wrong way...so yes action and tactics are needed for climate change but Religion is fixing itself...so no tactics needed. If it ain't broke...don't.fix it.

Why?

Do you want to follow in the steps of the obstructionist republican fascist who use tactics, often dirty illegal criminal tactics to win at any cost???

Responsibility is the key word to lots of our problems. So many deniers on this site. More volunteers with responsibility needed .

1

What's your point?

2

What "tactics"?
To what end?

2

Why if people are coming to their senses the only tactics are combating their methods to control others

Yes I am talking about tactics to get to freedom from religion.
