How do you handle prayer at work? I feel awkward when it comes up. I work in a very small office and I am the only person that is not a believer. It’s hard enough to listen to the magical stories and not say anything. (I’m not totally sure if I would keep my job) I usually go find something to do like busy WORK to avoid it. On occasion I can’t escape and just stand there holding hands with everyone feeling like a dork!

I work in bars. Not a whole lot of praying going on at work.

@ArtsyChick No shortage of those folks.

If they kept it up, I'd tell them it's not appropriate for the workplace. Not sure if you would be able to say that without them ostracizing you or if there was someway to tell someone higher up what was going on anonymously. I live in Oregon and prayer at work would be weird in any of the places I have worked at.

Badly. It's my workspace. Take your dogsbollocks out the back, we've stuff to get done and you're interrupting.
My only exception was when one of the cast tried to murder his girlfriend (also in the cast) and then hung himself. That's not the time for ploughing through.

I've never been in that situation but I guess I would do what one of them would do in a room full of none believers.

that's gotta be soul destroying to watch supposedly intelligent people spout fairy tales and then have them question you on your work performance . I could not handle that even a little bit.

I have never been in a work situation in which prayers were offered -- even in the deep South.

I am retired but can't say that ever happened to me - I find for where I live in sheltered accommodation that ear plugs are very discreet if you have hair to cover them or a beanie hat would do. loads of people in her talk a pile of you -know -what and it s bliss to zone them out. if i don't want to be discreet I wear big ear defenders.

That sucks. I've never enjoyed being in jobs like that. There have been times when I've actually said I had diarrhea just to get out of participating when I knew it was coming.

Nearly everyone I know, knows that I am not Christian, so when I stand or sit silently without bowing my head, closing my eyes, saying amen, or whatever, no one really thinks anything about it. I just resoect their space, without joining in.

The magical stories could be true..it's just that THEY are the ones doing the miracles. When I was growing up I did most of the stuff talked about in the Bible, but didn't see it as unusual, or even religious. It was just the way it was.

So did my friends, and my kids. We used ESP for routine communication, had things happen the way we decided, because that's how the universe works. Nothing to do with religion. Of course you can say I'm wrong all day, but it still happened.

It also does not belong in a work environment. If anyone asks you why you avoid it or don't attend say you prefer to practice your beliefs in private. They don't need to know what they are.

Just pretend that you listening something else which you enjoy . Let your mind wander
