The people who read the bible also believe that god wrote the bible! WRONG! Man wrote the bible! There is NO WAY that anybody can explain who created the earth 3000 years ago! Republicans use the bible as a hate weapon!

The Bible is one of the bloodiest most fucked up books ever written. Whoever wrote it, be they man or deity, they are in dire need of a straitjacket.

Lots of straitjackets, it was a conference in Trent in the very early Middle Ages

The problem is not the bible itself. If it is seen for what it is, a collection of ancient writings that contain some wisdom, along with a whole lot of bullshit, there would be no issue with it.

The problem is that some people take it as the literal truth inspired of their god; and these people are also likely the ones who will focus on the angry and judgmental god and the Jesus who will send you to hell for not believing in him.

If a god wrote the Bible, the Bible proves that the god who wrote it was stupider than most humans.

May I also add the earth is approx 6 billion yrs
Old

If god had written the Bible the Ten Commandments would actually be only five -double -spaced and written in large font.

2

Not everyone who reads the bible believes that god wrote it. I've read it, and I don't believe god even exists. He obviously couldn't have written a book of fables that I've actually held in my hand.

The bible was written by numerous people, edited by many hands for a lot of reasons, and reinterpreted by every reader. How can a book that can be read to mean almost anything you want it to, have any meaning at all?

I agree but I think the earth has been around a lot more than 3,000 years.

2

The bible is based on an oral tradition passed from generation to generation by word of mouth. That alone renders it unreliable as each teller puts his/her own spin on it to accommodate their telling style.

The stories were collected together at the First and Second Councils of Nicea in 325 CE. The Council collected the various stories, picked those that were the most patriarchal ( I doubt they consciously intended to do that) constructed the first Bible.

The bible is a reflection of the primitive Bronze Age mentality of the goat herders and camel breeders who wrote it. That's why it's so full of rape, incest, murder, war, xenophobia, bloodlust, magical thinking and scientific ignorance. Its authors were only three hairs removed from being orangutans.

You neglected to mention that when it was written they thought the earth was flat and they had not yet invented toilet paper. 🙂

@daherm I would argue that they invented toilet paper when they wrote the bible. (rimshot)

all Christians use the bible to spread their hate and do horrible things worse than the Taliban

Well, I would not say ALL Christians. There are some good ones out there; many, as a matter of fact.

Not all who call themselves Christians take the bible literally. And, many of them focus on the "love" aspect of Jesus--not the hell-fire and brimstone Jesus. That's the thing about the bible, there is so much contradiction in it, people can pick and choose what the want to believe--or teachings they want to adhere to.

@Joanne i haven't found one that isn't a backstabbing two faced nasty self righteous idiot

@whiskywoman : There are plenty of horrible Christians and I have known many (some in my own family) ; but I have also known, or met, many who aren't (also, some in my own family). They aren't decent people because of their religion, they are decent people who just happen to be Christian.

I recommend books by Bart Ehram among them “jesus Interrupted” and “How Jesus became God” among others. Well documented in this area. I agree with you: the bible was written theologically by men trying to embellish their beliefs and not as revelation.

1

Exactly. We all know that god could never hold a pen properly. And his spelling was crap anyway so he had to get some others to do it for him.

I know for a fact he could never get his head around their, there and they’re.

...and as for bow and bough, and no and know! Much easier to get someone else to do it!

No kidding

This is self evident

Also you may wish to rephrase that. I have read the bible (shall i tell you which one?) and have never, ever believed it was written by a god. In fact some say that reading the bible is leading cause of atheism. That wasn't the case with me, as i was an atheist before i ever read any of the bible. But it is true for many.

g

Actually reading the bible, and learning more about how it came to be, led me to not believe in the god described within its pages. It is far too human and too contradictory. Learning more science is what led to my becoming an atheist--not believing in ANY kind of god.

hmm, i read it, and i don't believe Yah wrote it. And fwiw i don't think anyone was trying to explain "who" created the earth, Adam and Eve are acknowledged by scholars to be "types" and not actual ppl, etc. Imo you are just too lazy to read for yourself lol

Anytime someone says God wrote it, I ask them what did he write it on before he create the universe and paper. Then it suddenly becomes 'God INSPIRED men to write it.'

If you understood what biblical god is, then you would understand that God did infact write the biblical text.

And let me go back to this topic. Do you know why it is called "word of God"?
Because the people who wrote it are the gods.
3 different references that people are Gods. With out disputing truth or fiction of Jesus character, it is written that Jesus style God argued that people are Gods.
Isaiah 41:23 Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

Not promoting any doctrine but would consider defending the biblical text and Jewish writtings in general as a work of genius.
Nobel Prizes[note 1] have been awarded to over 900 individuals,[1] of whom at least 20% were Jews, although the Jewish population comprises less than 0.2% of the world's population. Wikipedia
"I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. Genesis 12:2
The nation of Israel really exist. The people are the gods that wrote the biblical text.

Oh, please, define 'Biblical God'. I don't see how anyone can claim that people are gods.

The Bible is based on cultural stories that were passed orally from generation to generation by story tellers. As oral traditions go, they remain pretty true to the main concept but details change with every telling and every story teller.

The Bible was first written in 325 CE at the First Council of Nicea, modified again at the Second Council and the Council of Rome. Constantine brought notable elders in, they recounted their oral stories and selected those they wanted to keep, and discard or ignored those they didnt want. They tended to be patriarchal and omitted a number of the female chapters. So in essence the Bible was written 300 years after the so called Christ lived.

It's not just republicans that do that. I have read, and seen an inordinate amount of that same BS, from Flat Earthers, Moon landing deniers, Creationists, etc.
It seems that lunacy knows no bounds.

It is also with a bit of irony that some of the top people in their respective fields of Science, from Francis Collins, head of the Genome project, and Dr Kennith R Miller, who has written the book, or I should say books, on Celular biology, as well as evolutionary biology. Both of which are firm believers in Jesus.

Yet there are still many that will pose the notion that any one who would believe in such nonesense isn't worth listening to.

I think many get hung up on who said what, or what they 'believe', rather than the importance of what they are saying.

Believing in any said "higher power" is not always "willful ignorance". Some are quite firm in that there is reason to accept both.
That by any means is how I accept my world view. But My point was to say. regardless of any ones personal 'beliefs'. the advantage of deductive, or critical thinking is NOT only from the non-believer.
