Why is nudity considered "a bad thing"? Is it some residual thing from the Garden of Eden meme? I'm vastly amused by standard slasher films where a dozen or so people get brutually murdered (yawn), but "boobies" get the boys excited. Christ in a sidecar, it's the human form. We've all got one. So why is it "a bad thing"?

Humans are possessive, greedy, yeah, my woman has great boobies, but only I get to see them.
Origonally protection from elements, insects etc. Try going without foot wear in some places.
Lots of nudity at my place, but not total. I like Gibran.

Your clothes conceal much of your beauty, yet they hide not the unbeautiful.
And though you seek in garments the freedom of privacy you may find in them a harness and a chain.
Would that you could meet the sun and the wind with more of your skin and less of your raiment,
For the breath of life is in the sunlight and the hand of life is in the wind.
Some of you say, "It is the north wind who has woven the clothes to wear."
But shame was his loom, and the softening of the sinews was his thread.
And when his work was done he laughed in the forest.
Forget not that modesty is for a shield against the eye of the unclean.
And when the unclean shall be no more, what were modesty but a fetter and a fouling of the mind?
And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.

Christianity teaches us to loathe the body and pleasure. I tell my students to ignore that garbage.

I have debated with my students and friends many topics....nudism was one of them. The answers / comments from my students have been -always- ten times better than those from the adults.

@DUCHESSA The sky is always falling, with adults. They project their own fears of guilt on to youth

@farmboy2017 You can say that again. Their ignorance is overwhelming. One mother opposed Sex Education because she was convinced the kids were going to be taught "How to f...k" (her exact words).

@DUCHESSA who was going to teach them?

@farmboy2017 She was convinced the Dept. of Ed. would send a nurse / doctor to teach the boys how to properly penetrate a girl. My comment (to other teachers) was "I guess she thinks we will hire whores and pimps for this subject."

No, it’s more from the Victorian age. Even the mediaeval painters did nudes. It was the pilgrims and their bizarre fear of the human body that still lingers here today. In Europe, it’s not as big of a deal.

I think it's mostly working class Americans who have these nudity phobias, from church teachings. The more upper class people don't have this, and much of Europe as well.

I have visited many Nudist resorts, in USA, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Pto. Rico...Most people visiting these resorts were / are middle class people.

when evolution started all were nude but had long hairy bits to come themselves. as the weather grew colder they started wearing hides to keep warm.
if you got to the fench polyneisan island in the pacific ocean they dressed rather very little is warm sunny and free
in a our society in summer vast areas in europe nudity is welcome however when ignorance of mankind prevale like being drunk and hving open sex in front of under age kids nudity does goes out of window.

Apparently whoever contributed to the first Old Testament thought flesh was evil-a priest, monk, whatever.

Just years of conditioning and grooming. I don't see the big deal. at home, if I'm on my own I just wear boxer shorts as I am now but I just don't feel comfortable naked and I don't know why because we are all naked under these clothes.

I was taught growing up that nudity is bad and that a person shoudl be ashamed of beign nude. However, nobody could ever explain to me the "why?" of it.

The garden of Eden story was an allegory supposed to reprent childhood, and the tree of knowledge was sex, and the snake was a boy's/man's penis, thus knowing in the biblical sense refers to sex (carnal knowledge), and once a child reches puberty, they have to wer clothes or cover up.

The same experienced by Adam and Eve, can be seen from an evolutionary standpoint tht children enering into sexual maturity want soem control over who is attracted to them or who they wish to attrct, so many cultures have the genitals covered up once puberty is reached. The shame is beign seen (naked) by someone you dont' wish to attract.

However, in some cultures nudity was common, even in adulthood, until Christian missionaries taught shame to them. National Gegraohuic was well knownfor publishign bare breated women of variosu tribes, but they also encountered many tribes where genitals were not covered, but they just never published photos of them.

Before this turns into a novella, let's just say tht nudity or lack of nudity is purely cultural. A naked person in Ancient Greece was not uncommon, so it was not limited to primitive societies. Up until Weatern infliences nudity was also not a big deal in Japan.

I find it to be almost farcical that we all know what we all have under our clothes, but we are supposed tohide it from each other. i see it as a societal dysfunctional behavior.

I've been to nude beaches, nudist clubs, been on naked biek rides, gone on nude hikes, swam nude, layed out to tan nude (I think a body looks better without tan lines), hav gardened nude, cleand house nude, and guess waht. The world did nto end and I enjoyed virtually everythign Ihave done nude even more.

BTW, there is a Nudist & Naturist group on this site in the groups section.

I couldn't agree more. I am much more disturbed by the graphic, gratuitous violence so prevalent in our culture than nudity.

Even some atheists haven't given up everything the church taught them.
Nudity is shameful.

All forms are not created equal.
