“Ah, spring--and Easter!

Although spring began on the Vernal Equinox, some people see Easter as the beginning of spring. Easter is, of course, the holiday that marks the resurrection of the Christian deity, Jesus. It correlates with the Jewish holiday of Passover, which is a “movable feast,” meaning that unlike some holidays, the day of observance is not fixed. This is the holiest of holy days for Christians as Jesus’ resurrection means that they, too, can resurrect after their deaths. Ironically, not all Christians know that Easter is based on earlier myths of death and resurrection.

In fact, the name “Easter” is the first indication of this. “Easter” is a modern version of “Ostara/Eostre,” an Anglo-Saxon/Germanic goddess of spring. The next clue is that rabbits are associated with Easter, including the Easter Bunny. Spring is about fertility and reproduction, and rabbits are well known for their procreation abilities. Eggs are likewise a symbol of fertility, and when rabbits are paired with eggs, it is a double whammy.

By the way, if anyone has heard the theory that “Easter” derives from the name of the Babylonian goddess Ishtar, that is just silliness. The etymology of “Ostara/Eostre” is not traced to Babylon.

HOWEVER, the myth of Jesus’ resurrection is closely tied to Ishtar by way of the Sumerian goddess Inanna; Ishtar is her Babylonian counterpart. “The Descent of Inanna” was recorded circa 1900 to 1600 BCE, but there can be little doubt that it was told orally long before that. Inanna, “Queen of the Great Above,” makes a trip to Kur, the underworld. After many tests, she comes face to face with the goddess of Kur, Ereshkigal, who shoots her a look that kills her. All is not lost, though: Inanna can be resurrected if someone on the surface will take her place. Who and what happens is too long to recount here, but Inanna is saved from Kur.

In addition to the resurrection, Inanna has another thing in common with Jesus: she is dead for three days and night. There is conjecture as to why Inanna goes to Kur; she tells the gatekeeper that she is there to attend a funeral, but the poem never mentions this again. I believe that she made the trip to experience death, much like Jesus had to experience death in order to save his followers. One difference is that Inanna had to find someone to take her place in Kur while Jesus died for others so that they did not have to go to hell.

Inanna is one of the earliest dying and resurrecting deities; the other oldest is the Egyptian, Osiris. Osiris’ death and resurrection opened the door for humans to die and be resurrected. Throughout the world there are dying and resurrecting deities in almost every corpus of myth. The Greek Dionysus died and resurrected in a couple of versions of his myths; in one, he was hung on a tree to die. A ritual in which wine and bread are featured prominently was performed before the tree in the spring (predating the Christian rite of sacrament).

In Catholic apocrypha, in the three days that Jesus was dead, he visited hell where he saved those who were worthy of heaven but died before his birth. These people include Noah and the patriarchs—and maybe some women—of The Hebrew Scriptures. This visit to the underworld also echoes the experience of Inanna and other deities who likewise made the trip. We see this motif in modern literature, as well; in LOTR, Aragorn descends into the underworld when he recruits the ghost soldiers via the Dimholt Road. In doing so, he not only resurrects the ghosts (kinda) but he gives them absolution and releases them from their torment—just like Jesus.

While people are eating their Easter ham, hunting colored eggs, and cooing over bunnies and chicks, they might or might not be oblivious to the pagan origins of this holiday. However, those myths and rites are hiding in plain sight.”

Thank you that is a really good overview. One thing worth noting, which may not have occurred to everyone. Is that of course the 'Easter eggs' were more than just symbolic spring fertility, the hunting of them was once a real part of the annual cycle. In the days when people hunted for wild birds eggs as an extra food source, the appearance of the first eggs in the hedges and woods in spring, at the end of the winter when stored food was getting low, which corresponds to the traditional Christian fast period of lent, was a real needful addition to the diet. Especially, as in those days primitive chicken breeds, who did not have the benefit of electric lighting to give artificial day length, probably went off lay in winter too, so that real hunger was a result.

I could not put a second comment on previous post.
"The uneducated with no interest in mystical traditions and the esoteric may regard Ancient Egypt as little more than a place of pagan worship, strange hieroglyphics, and monuments erected by thousands of Hebrew slaves. But those more learned, especially those having undertaken the initiative rituals of Freemasonry, will see a link between the Egyptian metaphysical tradition and modern mystery schools, of which Freemasonry is one."

@Gwendolyn2018 The Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonic appendant body open to both men and women. It was established in 1850 by lawyer and educator Rob Morris, a noted Freemason, but was only adopted and approved as an appendant body of the Masonic Fraternity in 1873. The order is based on teachings from the Bible,[1] wikipedia's

Morning star, eastern star? Easter?

@Gwendolyn2018 I wouldn't say I have any interests in them either. That's why I've done things to get their racist devil worship shut down. Attached pick is a fail attempt, but I have tried and yet to give up.

The biblical text follows out of Egypt and most do not understand nor know the connections that the biblical text actually saying in new testiment that the Egyptian stories come true.

The LORD Almighty will bless them, saying, "Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance." Isaiah 19:25

The "Lord" of Israel was Egyptian.

As to Osiris of Egypt:
But he did not just represent death in the physical world, also rebirth or what you may call being born again.

a) John 3:3

Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."

As to Osiris of Egypt:
He was married to his sister Isis, who was goddess of the sky and love. Isis and Osiris had a child Horus, who is believed by many to be a reincarnation of Osiris.

John 14:9 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

Osiris is usually identified as the God of the afterlife, the underworld and the dead. He is also called the King of eternity, King of the living, Master of souls; He who appears as ram in Mendes, and the Sovereign of Amenti.(1) Another curious title that you will find for Osiris is the “Morning Star.”

This same Morning Star of Osiris found in the Book of the Dead, appears to be the same Morning Star that we can find in the Book of Revelation, where Saint John says, “I will give him the Morning Star (Rev. ii. 29).

There is only one morning star, it is thought to be just another name for the planet Venus.

@Fernapple, @gwendoly2018

Phosphorus (Greek Φωσφόρος Phōsphoros) is the Morning Star, the planet Venus in its morning appearance. Φαοσφόρος (Phaosphoros) and Φαεσφόρος (Phaesphoros) are forms of the same name in some Greek dialects.

This celestial object was named when stars and planets were not always distinguished with modern precision.

Another Greek name for the Morning Star is Heosphorus (Greek Ἑωσφόρος Heōsphoros), meaning "Dawn-Bringer". The form Eosphorus is sometimes met in English, as if from Ἠωσφόρος (Ēōsphoros), which is not actually found in Greek literature,[1] but would be the form that Ἑωσφόρος would have in some dialects. As an adjective, the Greek word φωσφόρος is applied in the sense of "light-bringing" to, for instance, the dawn, the god Dionysos, pine torches, the day; and in the sense of "torch-bearing" as an epithet of several god and goddesses, especially Hecate but also of Artemis/Diana and Hephaestus.[2]

The Latin word lucifer, corresponding to Greek φωσφόρος, was used as a name for the morning star and thus appeared in the Vulgate translation of the Hebrew word הֵילֵל (helel), meaning Venus as the brilliant, bright or shining one, in Isaiah 14(Isaiah 14:12), where the Septuagint Greek version uses, not φωσφόρος, but ἑωσφόρος. As a translation of the same Hebrew word the King James Version gave "Lucifer", a name often misunderstood as a reference to Satan. Modern translations of the same passage render the Hebrew word instead as "morning star", "daystar", "shining one" or "shining star". In Revelation 22 (Revelation 22:16), Jesus is referred to as the morning star, but not as lucifer in Latin, nor as φωσφόρος in the original Greek text, which instead has ὁ ἀστὴρ ὁ λαμπρὸς ὁ πρωϊνός (ho astēr ho lampros ho prōinos), literally: the star, the shining one, the dawn.[3][4][5] In the Vulgate Latin text of 2 Peter 1 ( 2 Peter 1:19) the word "lucifer" is used of the morning star in the phrase "until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts", the corresponding Greek word being φωσφόρος. With out debating truth or fiction: as best as I can for now, to give for an observation based on what is written as I have researched up to this point.

Genesis "God" created the "hosts" and man kind. As you explain about elohim, which is what I have simularly found: I think there is connection to these terms: Host, Angel and son of "God". These as I understand, man and angels, are created as apart of or from the "eternal".

Adam, som of God, given reign over earth? He was written as having intelligence to name animals. Homo sapian mean wise man. Wisdom is high intellegence capabilities.

Knowledge of good and evil is the 'super" of cognition capability. With knowledge of good and evil one can Judge between contrasts in a world of varying contrast. It takes a lot of wisdom and intellectual capabilities to have such judgments using or knowing good and evil.

1kings 3 : 9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

Thanks for information, here is some stuff I have made some rough notes in my research and experience. I may have to send a few different replies to get it all in. I don't mind reasonable feed back. Thanks.

As to Osiris of Egypt:

He was married to his sister Isis, who was goddess of the sky and love. Isis and Osiris had a child Horus, who is believed by many to be a reincarnation of Osiris.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the logos, the logos was with God and was God.

Logos,  thought/word capabilities.  What is anything with out cognition or thinking ability?

What is the highest of concepts to understand? Knowledge of good and evil.

Can cognition create? As written, Jesus character say: ... that born of pneuma is Pnuema.  I think "Ruach"would be used instead of Pnuema if originally written in Hebrew.   Ruach and Pnuema translated into English is Spirit which as a connotation of ghost.  This I think is an error to use spirit with or as a connotation for ghost.

Jesus character referred to himself as "son of man". The man (people) having the Egyptian logos thoughts spoke Jesus character into existence.  This follows with other themes of biblical ideals the "God" created by simply speaking it into existence.   Speaking words is force with information.   Ruach is a force. Air molecules have a force with intellageable pattern when words are spoken.

Ah yes. The irony of the original Eostra celebrations for the goddess of spring and fertility that the Christians shanghaied to make their own is one of my favourites. It is kind of a toss up with good ol Kris Kringle, Germanic pagan god of Yule . I'f the Christian's only knew. I'm relatively certain that the writers of the bible and other religions text never imagined that people would ever be able to actually research all the sources they ripped off over the centuries to push their brand x.
