A plane went down and all people on it died; they were a mix of Christian, other religions, and atheists/agnostics. The non-Christians “awoke” in a beautiful land of rolling hills and forests; they were greeted by a smiling gentleman who was very kind. He explained that they were all in hell and he was Satan and that they could have most of what they desired. He showed them around the place and all of the inhabitants looked happy and even prosperous. Finally, he showed them a large, placid lake, shimmering in what appeared to be the sun. Blue skies and white fluffy clouds were overhead.

But suddenly, the sky opened up and people started falling down, screaming. The lake split and fire roared up through the opening; the smell of sulfur and brimstone filled the air. The falling people, some of whom had been on the plane, fell into the breach and as it closed, the scene returned to what it was before.

The newcomers looked at Satan in speechless horror. He smiled sadly, shrugged, and said, “Christians—they just won’t have it any other way.”

I have only one belief: Tonight, I believe I'll have a cold beer.

I don't believe that - I know that!

I KNOW it when the beer is in my hand and the cap is off. And this being Saturday, it's a virtual certainty.

Yet another post mortem perk for atheists!

Thanks for the chuckle!

That last line says it all for those who insist that an imaginary person wrote them a book and will judge them by it also. Why are people so dumb? It's hard for me to think I was once a believer just as they are.

Recommended reading (although it's dated and terribly unfeminist in a lot of ways): Robert Heinlein, JOB: A Comedy Of Justice

It resounds with this same kind of thinking.

Yes that reminds me of the similar tale of of a good man who goes to heaven having never been religious in his life, to find a nice peace full place.
Being shown about by an angel he meets Rabbi's, Imams, Buddhist monks and Hindu pujaris all of who are perfectly happy and chatting to one another in perfect peace.
Finally the man and the angel come upon a high walled enclosure that goes on for miles.
"we must be very quiet passing here" says the Angel.
"Why's that?" asks the man
"This is where the catholics live, and they get very cross if they realise they are not the only ones here."

I might change "Christians" to Fundamentalists or Evangelical Christians. Not all Christians believe in hell, or a place of eternal torment; but it was funny.

Ironically even the catholic church acknowledged the 1800 year old intentional mistranslation that led to the whole hell thing years ago, but they are still pushing it.

@wolf041 It's an effective tool when you want to control people.

@Joanne funny how that works 🙄

Love it.
I'm copying that tale for posting on my FB page.
