**Hate and haters are not welcome in BC, or Canada.
Those who don't stand against hate, are enabling it. So Let's all join John Horgan in BC to stop hateful behaviour wherever we see it.
John Horgan, BC Premier: "Hate has no place in BC. Hate crimes have risen during the pandemic. People have been punched, pushed, spat on, and had racist slurs shouted at them. These actions are despicable, and Asian Canadians have bore the brunt of them. Join me and fellow British Columbians in standing up against racism and hate."

I really hate those hateful haters and their vile hatred. How do we fix the ignorance and stupidity that cause the fear that breeds this hate? It's not like we can just lobotomize these ignorant assholes, it would only make them even more stupid and ignorant.
I stand up against racsm and bigotry every time i hear or see it. In Canada the law is always on my side, so i do what i can to stop racist attacks and behaviours while always remaining an ally to the victims. It's what i've done for over 50 years and will continue to do until i die. My parents survived the Holocaust and i am their legacy.
@josephr I'm glad to hear that your parents survived the holocaust and I can understand why you would have a vested interest in standing up against racism, you might not be here if things had gone differently for your parents with the Nazis. Not to say that you don't have more altruistic reasons for hating racism and that really is what we need to see more of. Not people standing up against racism because it is the politically correct thing to do but because it is the decent thing to do and the correct thing to treat each other fairly and without bias. It is especially important for those of us with privilege and position to lead from the front and set the proper tone so that others question the very root of their hatred. Ignorance breeds fear and fear breeds hatred.
@Surfpirate Thank you. I appreciate your perspectives and agree with everything you've written.
In the US:::: 99% of the attacks on asian persons have been perpetrated by black and brown people.
Every survey of social media show that the LEAST racist are WHITE people. The MOST racist are BLACK people.
So..................WHO IS SPREADING THE HATE REALLY?????
It's happened here in Australia too. I can't fathom how some brains work.
Neither can their owners i suspect.
Unfortunately the media and our political leaders are pointing the finger at China for being responsible for this pandemic.
This in turn is giving those that are already racist what they think is a reason to retaliate and target Asians.
What they don't realize is this hatred is a poison that is destroying themselves from the inside.
I choose to love
Yes it is a choice, and one i have made too over 50 years ago.
Are they welcome anywhere in the world?
Sadly, haters are probably welcomed by some in most if not all countries.
Hate is Weakness! Your subconscious mind is powerless so you turn to Hate and violence! But in stead of 'an other peace spreading' message with all its empty hashtags, the celebrations, marches and 'cultural' festivities I would like to see deeds and (stronger) legislations! And if you claim to have a decent constitution that 'protects the rights of All' and still have the problem than you still either didn't enforce the law 'lawfully' or You failed / are still failing in implementing these 'constitutional values' in the minds, behavior and upbringing of your people! Deed, Deeds and not words!
As long as by racism we mean negative views and acts towards any racial group by any racial group. As someone of Asian descent who grew up in lower mainland B.C., I had learned that the general belief is that racism means bad things Caucasian people do or say to other racial groups (or ethnic/racial minorities). Seriously, I'd had to battle my own family and relatives, who had discriminatory views against other racial/ethnic groups, over my choices of persons to date since I had dated persons from all racial backgrounds. Even these men I dated, had racist views towards other races. May be it's not violent hate crime, but it's mentally disturbing and socially challenging, and it can cause more hidden actions that are not as out in the open or sensationalized. It all just has to stop!!!
And what is racism can be tricky to determine. I've been in Canada for 37 years, Canadian for 34 years. I barely have any accent at all and I speak almost exclusively English (other than French or Spanish or Arabic). I still get asked where I'm from and it doesn't seem to be satisfactory when I say I'm from here. I feel that people treat me like I am not one of them because I'm an ethinic/racial minority. BTW, I do not identify myself as Asian-Canadian. I'm just Canadian. (Sorry for the rant...haha...so Canadian.)
Well said!
