Agnostics / humanists / atheists, I often wonder if third world countries with little medical care and no social security system; are poor health and old age much bigger issues than here, such that other cultures depend more on religion and having more children. Seems we need less prayer what with pensions, 401K, Roth, and Social Security.

You had better go travelling

I think education would be well served with a six month stint in the third world as an eye opener. I also think you hit the nail on the head in the difference between first world problems (my cell phone is out of date) and third world problems (I need to sell myself to the cartel to get food for my family) are not easy to grasp for folks who have not seen and smelled the third world.

I have friends from the pacific islands, they don't have pensions or health cover, yet they look after everybody in their villages. A friend of mine was more wealthy so 30 years ago she was given someone else baby to raise. The girl grew, knew her birth mother. That is normal for them.
I find pernsion funds and health insurance companies total rip offs. I have neither.

At the rate the US is going, give it a couple years and we'll find out firsthand.

Germany has a natioanal retirement system that everyone pays into. There are virtually no old people in Germany without full retirement pay. It works. We could do the same here if it were not for the Republican Party and extreme libertarians.

Sometimes, I think we are being held hostage, over health care! If I remember correctly, it is the biggest business in this country (maybe behind the government), and yet, a great many people have inadequate insurance or simply cannot afford to pay for their health care. The advancement in treatments are costly! A great portion of people in this country, hold a minimum wage job and even my children who have above average incomes pay an exorbitant amounts in health insurance. Even then, they must 'jump thru hoops,' to obtain certain health test and care! Even the religious people get the modern day health care and still expect 'god' to come thru for them, too! I have noticed that the religious people go to the doctor more than the non-religious people and they have more on-going ailments...and another thing that I have noticed is...they will only do what the Dr says, without checking out their own body and mind...to make sure it makes sense in their case! In other words, I wouldn't hesitate, to not do what the Dr said, if I thought it does not make good sense. (I must select my doctor with care, as I am part of my care ha! ha!). I kinda ran off in the 'weeds' here...

If it isn't then we in the USA have been seriously duped by the healthcare system in this country.

We still don't help the homeless build shelters, provide plumbing and heating for the low income and provide health care to all who need it. Trumpland and Ryan want to cut all programs. What pension, 401K and Roth account are u talking about?

I tend to think that we have plenty of issues in the U.S. with poor health and old age. Lots of lonely poor people. And we're a very religious (praying) nation. (I forgot to check whether you're from here or one of the more developed first world countries....)

In most old age isn't much of an issue, unless you mean 45.
