Why does gender matter? Does it matter, what real difference does it make to anyone?

It depends on what context you are referring.

I’m attracted to females. So yes, gender is important in that regard.

When it comes to other aspects, not really. There are women who can do men’s jobs and men who can do women’s jobs.

It's all about context. In MOST situations, it doesn't and it shouldn't.

I don’t even know what gender means, anymore. I don’t care, either. People are just people, they have their lives, I’ve got mine. Whatever gender means now, doesn’t matter.

while i don't think it matters as far as what one is capable of, i had many jobs that would be considered mens work, i kept up just fine, i do think as far as relationships go it is important. i have many friends who fall in2 different catagories as far as gender is concerned, but i am straight, i feel it is important 2 b honest about such things so the other person can make an informed decision on weather or not they are interested romantically in someone. i would never hold it against someone say if they had started with female parts and changed things 2 become a man, but i think i should have the right 2 decide 4 myself if that is something im comfortable with as far as being physical

I think it only really matters during procreation.
Otherwise I don't think it should matter at all.

I have short hair, and it irks me to no end when my hair dresser refers to it a Man's Cut.
And that's just a little annoyance; the issue goes far deeper.

I'm no one's doctor, so gender doesn't matter to me. I don't mate, date, or copulate, so I don't even need to know anyone else's gender, ever.

I'm not worried about getting pronouns wrong: im sensitive and respectful and i trust either people will let me know ahead of time, or they'll correct me if I get it wrong. If they get dramatic and uppity about it, I'll know them as someone to avoid.

That's just me. I know many people still have all kinds of weird arbitrary attitudes about gender and I can't deal with all that foolishness so I just avoid people in general.

Can you narrow it down a bit? Are you talking about transexuals being attractive to a straight person?

in the U.K women get very much less for the same job It also matter s to me that we carry the babies .

I have good friends probably of every possible gender, I lost track years ago. It is of no importance to me.

Regarding sexuality, heterosexuality, and homosexuality are very different of course. I went to war with heterosexuality and lost. At a point in my life, I was so emasculated that I felt like I just might be whatever anyone wanted me to be, but I realized that my broken psychology was the issue and not my sexuality. I don't see anything wrong with homosexuality nor being bi but I absolutely believe that regardless of one's thoughts on universal love, love does not equal sex and sex does not equal love. I do believe we can enjoy both, collectively and separately. And depending on your own construct, you can enjoy both genders for their individual pleasures.

I think you may have confused sex with gender.

@cvccosplay no, I didn't. Maybe you didn't understand my point.

@Fibonacci1618 yeah, my friend, you did. There are more than 2 genders, but only 2 sexes. Sorry bro. You confused.

@cvccosplay I'm not going to argue gender fluidity. But I will reiterate that my point, that love had nothing to do with sex, and sex, is independent of love. I don't see where gender is relevant to my point. Take your agenda out of my experience and my share.

@Fibonacci1618 LOL SMH

In what respect? I am not attracted to men.

What is the context? Not to discriminate, but when it comes to dating gender is my number one criteria.

Men smell and are ugly

Yeah, that.

Have you been to walmart? There are some pretty amazing women there that would qualify for studies.

I don't smell, and I'm not.....hmmm; damnit I don't smell.

I'm not THAT ugly.

@Marine Walmartians; I love 'em!

It's an interesting question. It's easy to assume that sex and gender are the same thing, since in most cases, these characteristics align. But they aren't neccessarily the same. While I identify as a female and a lesbian, I have a male sex. I typically date female sexed individuals with no preference of their identifying gender. Although I prefer to use the female bathroom & locker room, the only person to which identified gender matters is the individual.

It matters on a biological level for reproduction. It matters because, like it or not, our society is based on Judeo-Christian ethics that teaches and emphasizes monogamous male/female marriage. Pesonally, what consenting adults want to do is nobodies business. There will always be plenty of children. As long as men need to subjugate women to ensure that their children are being born, rather than making sure the woman and children are protected no matter who spawned the babies, gender will matter. Women, in general are less concerned with that because they know the baby needs her no matter who the father is. Why do you think there are fewer woman here? (I am assuming, I have no numbers.) God the father? My own was a hard core, narrow minded, athiest Jew. I still caught crap for marrying a Greek Orthodox man in a civil ceremony. I was 19, I ate up Christianity like the Hebrew school I never went to. I know better now.

1

I think gender matters only because in general men are too often not as nice as women. Women tend to be a bit more caring and empathetic than men; I'm not saying there are not some nice guys, but........ Oh, and I'm a guy who mostly taught amongst femal teachers.

1

The reason gender matters is because it’s part of the universe. It was ‘created’ by the universe.

1

It doesn't unless it comes to sex because I'm not attracted to men. if I was it wouldn't matter at all. what does matter is who you are not what you are?

1

You kidding right?

1

The only gender that matters to me is my own.

1

To those whom it makes a difference then it makes a difference. From the point of nature it is merely a complementary state of being.

I would say there are some jobs that are suited to one gender or another that better suits that person. You would not ask a person of slight build to lift 100 lb sacks of cement. It is the qualifications that a person offers that should deterimne if they suit the purpose.

I agree with your statement, but you have conveniently eliminate all reference to gender, thus, almost, proving the opposite point.
The jobs you refer to are better filled by the right person, with the right skills and qualifications... not gender related.
There are big, strong men & women and there are little wimpy men & women. The same can be said for any skill or ability.

Gender is part of the human mating ritual. People are typically attracted to masculinity and femininity (gender presentation) while their mechanical sexual interest is in male or female (sex.) In the wonderful world of cishetero, this works just fine: females are feminine, males are masculine, and there's nothing to be confused about. Start messing with gender's correlation with sex, and straight males start finding themselves attracted to trans women who still have penises, and it all becomes very confusing, not to mention threatening to their sexuality.

Beyond that, I'd like to see gender abolished. I think it's largely happened in a one sided way, with the freedom that women now have to behave in a masculine manner. The reverse, unfortunately, isn't true: it isn't yet acceptable for a man to display feminine character traits. A woman wants to drink pints and fix cars for a living? Good on her. A man wants to be a hairdresser and drink alcopops? What a big ponce!

Outside of the mating ritual, I see gender as prescriptive, divisive, and something that should be redundant in modern society. So a bit like religion, then.
