How Belgium had African Natives, people from the Congo, in zoos.

A very disturbing, hurtful and degrading time of human beings towards another.

The world is getting better. Seeing the rise of BLM gives me hope that humankind will eventually start acting more civilized to each other. I was in the U.S Military for 20 years and all we cared about was keeping each other safe. I worked with black, brown, white, and all colors of the rainbow. People from Germany to Bangladesh, Argentina South Africa among many others and we all watched out for each other. If an institution like the military can foster that kind of brotherhood than perhaps the civilian world can too.

Many Congolese took their deadly revenge on the white Belgians living there in 1960. In Kenya, we saw hundreds of fleeing Belgian families arrive, having driven from Eastern parts of that vast country in panic. They sold their cars and whatever else they could in order to buy air tickets to Brussels.
Poetic justice, really.
Strangely, it is very difficult to find any "in depth" references to the Congolese African's revenge and that mass exodus of settlers from the Congo.

I would think it would make interesting reading.

@Barnie2years The tales they related were pretty horrific.

nothing has really ever changed looking at the big picture

@LeighShelton and that's why BLM, to address these real issues and conditions which has not ended, not that other minorities are less important.

@TimeOutForMe humans strive to be the most powerful amongst there species

@LeighShelton they've humiliated other human beings and stripped them off their dignity. Made them feel like animals, as you can see, they took pleasure of a human being being caged ffs. This is pure evil, degrading and revolting.

@TimeOutForMe you're right

@TimeOutForMe the ancestors of these monsters are now the white supremest organizers in the US and in your counties. BLM scares them, because unlike the Native Americans and Australian Aborigines who never organized a viable resistance to their oppressors, the Blacks have had some success.

@Barnie2years what really divides humans is power and not colour

The actions of the Belgians in the Congo made British colonial rule seem almost benevolent.
King Leopold 2 treated it almost like his personal fiefdom and the indigenous people were treated virtually as slaves.

@Moravian no different to the Dutch who took over South Africa. ...and called themselves Afrikaners. Yes many were from Belgium too. Let's put it in order, those that took over here were escaped convicts from Holland, the rotten eggs (trouble makers) from France and the outcasts from society from Belgium.

@TimeOutForMe the Europeans mistreat the native people everywhere they went. It was really no different than what they did in Australia, America North and South, the Philippines, India and every other place they took control of over the centuries they were conquering the world.

1958 is in my lifetime...barely. 1906 in NYC. Bronx Zoo. Say his name. Ota Benga. Benga fell into a depression. He committed suicide in 1916

@barjoe you find racists trolls on my side (SA) that actually said they'll choose being in a zoo or in a cage with a monkey instead of genocide, just to sugar coat and twist the horrific truth of human beings being caged like animals in a zoo. These are the same racist trolls who are guilty of genocide right here in South Africa. How can someone make a choice between genocide and being caged like an animal. They're both revolting human tragedies. Victims on both situations have no control over these man-made atrocities and cruelty.

@barjoe This is another sad truth of one human being suffering at the hand of another, subjected in an unacceptable inhumane cruel situation.
