Anyone else go on to this or any other social media outlet and just feel really old? Even though I'm just barly into my 30s, I can't help but feel very out of the loop. Like what hashtag is appropriate, and also whats a hashtag because we used to call that the pound sign, and why does avacodo come on everything now?

Hi, Justin.
Not sure I understand your last sentence, and you're right about many older people being on this website; my daughter is older than you are.

However, it seems like many older, divorced or newly single people are coming here after growing tired of dealing with religious zealots after the last election.

The hashtags are to help people do searches for certain subjects.

Please don't feel old. I have shoes your age. WRT the icons and symbols, just consider that we can read and write cursive, and they can't.

I'm that way with cell phones. I have an old flip, and refuse to get a smart one. I have never texted anyone, and won't. If I ever have the need, I will get one, but I just don't need it. I just don't need to be connected or plugged-in 24/7. You'll laugh at this -- I still have a landline.

So do I and I'm not laughing. People do not get it that I still have that landline but I have 2 desktop computers running on them.

@DenoPenno Thank you! I feel more secure with a landline. Cell phones lose their charge or just die. Cordless phones don't work when the power goes out. It's not that I'm afraid of technology; I'm very computer literate. I just don't understand staring at a cell phone constantly.

@ArgosFriend I have a landlines as well but it's VOIP from my cable company so if the power goes out so does the phone.

When you notice "those youngsters" and their forty, then you know your old!

What gets me is an Internet add that says if you are 30 years old you gotta try this game. Why would a 30 year old be playing computer games?

Most things change multiple times in our lifetimes. The religions of our grandparents (if any) isn't the same as the religions today. I grew up in the North -- mayonaise was never a default in restaurants -- as I moved South over the decades, mayo on food was more prevelant. When I went back to visit 20 years ago, mayo was all over the place. It isn't that things change -- they always do -- it's how we deal with these changes. They can be looked at as a challenge or fun or dread. It's up to each person.

As you age, you see how you were a baby 10 years ago. Doesn’t matter how old you are.

I'm looking back now at things I fixed or repaired 10 years ago or less and wondering why I did it that exact way.

I feel really old because I AM REALLY OLD!

It is the challenge needed to keep us sharp and on the leading edge. The social media has and will continue to change human social and mental growth on the planet. With it comes the challenge to use it to improve and not let it control us.

Well your in luck. As far as I can tell, the median age on here is like 55.
Also, yeah... you're getting older. I've noticed tht I'm pretty much constantly annoyed when things keep changing and I have to learn a system all over again, when the old one worked just fine. I think that's a sign... lol! I like avocado tho. Those kids had a good idea there.

In Mexico avocado is on the hamburger at McDonald's.

Reddit, facebook, and now this.

Google is your friend.

Yes, I feel old.

1

No. you are labelling yourself. I don't use hashtags except for here Avocados are healthy and plentiful-heavily marketed in US.

1

and I always thought of these hashtag words as keywords but I could be wrong. Try this stuff when you are 60

2

I think many of us have experienced the feeling of being born in the wrong time and place.

1

LOL, try sitting in class with a bunch of 20 year olds all day and being older than the instructor. THEN talk to me about feeling old. I agree with you about the avocado, though. It's excessive.

2

im with you man! my 15 year old son had 2 explain 2 me that it was no longer a pound sign...and i totally like avacadoes, but really? on EVERYTHING?
