Oh now, look at this way, they currently have the right to spew and share their droplets and allow Darwin to hopefully take care of the rest.

Not meaning to offend, but at first I thought this was a Trump Twitter post.... then I realized the grammar and spelling were much better than his.

Offend away!

Natural selection in action.

How many Darwin Awards can this bring?

People will raise a stink about this but what about all the BLM protests that had no social distancing.

False dichotomy.

@LenHazell53 nope. True dichotomy. It is selective outrage

@Heavykevy1985 BLM protests were not blessed by a Federal Government org on Federal property. In fact very much the opposite.

Regardless, what you are apparently now saying is either you didn't give a damn about BLM compliance (for the most part the official protests had widespread use of masks and social distancing - at least until rioters usurped the events which was long after regular citizens went home) or that you're admitting this event is no better than BLM events you were unhappy with but you really don't care about in this case.

@Heavykevy1985 I respectfully disagree.

I say let them dammit, but with some rules, first rule, go worship all you want but stay there worshipping 14 days in quarantine. Second rule, if you get the virus you forego all treatment so that you can meet your maker asap, and third rule, if you don't get it, you volunteer to take care of covid 19 terminally ill patients and kiss them ang hug them because you're protected by god!

Welcome to the middle ages!

Xtians killing Xtians. Unfortunately some collateral covid damage will happen.

Freedom of speech.

Yes, I'm exercising my freedom of speech and I can die if I want to. With faith Jebus will protect me.

@DenoPenno I'm hoping that one day we'll have some nice peer reviewed science around infection and death rates in Evangelical vs non religious communities that clearly demonstrates God hates Evangelicals and prayer has zero effect in saving lives.

..like spreading covid19 in a crowded theater…

NO one is inhibiting freedom of speech, simply requesting that said freedom be exercised sensibly in compliance within the reasonable constraints on public assembly by observing rules and laws designed to safeguard the public at large during a worldwide pandemic.

The planning and permitting of such an event under the current circumstances is an act of suicidal and homicidal madness, that only religion would be allowed to do unimpeded.
Unlike other protests carried out against genuine life threatening practices, this demand to be allowed to talk to an imaginary friend will likely NOT be tear gassed, flash grenaded or water cannoned.
It would seem the right to delude oneself about a myth being fact is FAR more important than police brutality, institutional racism, attacks on actual freedom of speech, the death of democracy (or the pretence at it) and ACTUAL freedoms being systematically eroded, all of which being inconveniently real are far LESS important.

@prometheus What a great idea for someone's dissertation!

Bye now!

And why would the Mall of America permit this?

Some Christians never got the message that they are supposed to suck it up and think of their treasures in Heaven.

As an ardent Christian once said to me after I quoted that same scripture to them
"What pinko, fag, commie bastard told you that pile of donkey shite."

LOL. He was certainly ardent but surely just a Christian in name.

Oh, FFS! I am beginning to run out of Darwin Awards to give to those Conservative Crazies!

Hey, at least you can now legally claim to be 'self-employed' .....LOL.

FFS, up goes the infection rates in the U.S. yet again.
On average, it takes just ONE person to infect another 3 people, those 3 can go on and infect a minimum of 9 more, those 9 can go on and infect at least another 27 and so on and so forth, the infection rate rises and rises exponentially.
It has been predicted, very sadly, that the U.S. Covid Death Toll may reach 250,000 by late March - early April 2021 but the calculations, it seems, did NOT take into account such rank stupidity as this kind of idiotic an event.

We're at 224K now. At this rate, I should think that we'll hit 250K a lot sooner than late March! USA! We're #1! 🙄

@AmyTheBruce I know this may well come across as being somewhat uncaring and totally apathetic BUT, imo, at least under tRump the Undertakers are doing a Roaring Trade.

@Triphid It comes across as smartassery, actually - which is part of why I like you, so it's fine.

Seriously, though, I doubt that this has helped the funeral racket much, if at all (which is fine by me; I think that the death industry is manipulative and overpriced, but that's another topic...) With gatherings so limited, they aren't making the money they're used to from big, lavish funerals.

Much like the manipulative, overpriced wedding industry, I expect that they're taking a big hit right now. (And maybe long-term, too. Maybe our society will reevaluate how big, and how expensive, these rites really need to be?)

"For all permit applications, we discuss a COVID-19 mitigation plan with the event organizers, but that plan is not a requirement for or condition of the permit," a National Park Service official told CBS affiliate WUSA.
