I think the Supreme Court ruling on pandemic restrictions for religious institutions in New York is just the beginning. It’s already been favoring religion as of late (see the Bladensburg Cross ruling), and eroding the separation of church and state; that wall of separation is about to get torn down. And, with these lifetime appointments, things look to be dire for a long time. With all of these conservative justices, I’m worried that attempts to curb climate change will also get derailed by the court.

The one big problem that the religious zealots don't or won't see is that rulings like this will only alienate people even more. Gone are the days of personal religious freedom to believe (but not push) what you will. The hypocrisy, lies, racism and just plain meanness is plain for everyone to see. People will start leaving in even bigger numbers than before. At one point being a Christian will be even worse than being an Atheist LOL.

I hear you. We should battle to set term limits for these types of lifetime appointments. If presidents have term limits why should the Supreme Court be forever or until that member dies? Set term limits.

I am going to be calling my representatives. If the religious want all these 'rights' then they can just pay taxes like everyone else. I am so done with ignorant stupid people. The last scene from the Invasion of the Body Snatchers came to mind, that's how I'll be when I see the religious out on the street.

Yes, and remove any and all god references in the govt. ‘cause frankly, I don’t trust god...

Yup, what we all feered is becoming reality. More superspreader events putting everyone, especially health care professionals at greater risk. Wonder how great peoples care will be having nurses and Dr's know we put ourselves in greater risk while to worship with our congregants instead of staying safe. But as you said, this is just the beginning, we all know it.The high court have their conservative majority now little can be done to stop the momentum. We must win the senate come January or all hell will break lose.

I wonder when they will bring back getting burned at the stake.

And stoning

This is what trump nominees were all supposed to do - skew the court to favor religious extremism. trump didn't know of any of these nominees before mcconnell asked for them to be appointed. They have all been "gifts" to his religious base.

Not surprised-it's a perfect death cult decision. When you'll do everything you can to stop women from choosing abortion but nothing to stop spreading a killer disease... stop calling yourself pro-life.

Perhaps we should think of news like this as natural selection in action. That and consider special admission tests for hospital space.

I don't, not when the ones who have the control infect others without consent. If they were just taking the risk for themselves, so be it but that's not the case. Their (our) entire communities will suffer.

@Leelu My point exactly. Do not associate with people who do not take care. And do not waste medical resources on people who think that their sky-fairy protects them from their stupidity.

@Detritus I get that but some have no choice. What about all the elderly that only have their religibot relatives to care for them. They're probably toast. Or the teachers that come in contact with the students of those adults. There are many more. Just saying they spread their plague far further that just church people.

@Leelu - South Korea provides the example that should have been considered. Over half the infections in this country were discovered to be among one Christian denomination which told their members that God would protect them from contracting the disease. They required their members to attend meetings which met more than once a week, refused to practice social distancing, and I don't recall if they allowed them to wear masks. If God was to protect them, mask wearing was probably discouraged. No doubt, other cases in the country were the result of the super spreader events these church meeting became. Members became infected at church and then took themselves out into the public without fear because God was supposed to be protecting them from infection. We can expect the same from NYC religious groups who brought this lawsuit, and everyone in the city will be at greater risk of infection.

All my thoughts on this level of ignorance have been very unchristian - 🙂. Fine, let the virus kill them off, I know the innocent will suffer and that's just Dog's will. (OH! for fuck sake!) I think the next step will be for these religious groups to have their tax exempt stasis removed. If the level of infection continues there will not be the medical resources to help them or us. In many areas faith based groups run the hospitals, especially in the less metropolitan areas, I see that as a problem. The final scene from the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers came to mind. That's how I'd be when I see the religious out in public. LOL

Again, I don’t give a shit about any court “Schemes” or “Rulings”. No court anywhere can tell you what to worship or how to worship, where to or even if you choose to do it at all.

That’s what it all boils down to. End of story. All of this so called rhetoric about “Religious Freedom” is nothing but a bunch of hot air in reality.

The Courts can dream up all the schemes they like, along with the idiot faith fools. They are powerless to change the country’s changing demographics, so they will just cry like little babies because it doesn’t suit their brand of “Reality”.

No shit, Sherlock!

Welcome to the continued dumbing down and approaching insanity of the USA driven by the onward march of Christian evangelicals.

5

religion will continue to attempt to mandate every aspect of our lives, that's why it was invented!

Yep. It's a lucrative, untaxed scheme. Who wouldn't go out without screaming?

The covid thing is the beginning of a new religious freedom.

I know it's unchristian but I hope they all die. LOL I have had some evil thoughts concerning my religious fellow humans, should I go to confession? LOL

@silverotter11 Nah, just pour yourself another drink of your choice, sit back, relax and watch them all wipe each other whilst fighting over who's gawd is the one true gawd.
