I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on global warming. What do you think can be done, and how. Do you think we can find a renewable source to replace fossil fuels without causing damage to the planet in other ways?

Adapt or perish. Too many people want to live as Americans do. Refrigerators, multiple vehicles, gluttony, gratuitous flaunting of our "greatness", corporate food, excessive animal cadaver consumption. Ubiquitous plastic, electric lights everywhere. blah blah blah. Are we the sole peoples permitted the advantages of rainforest de forestation? It is our consumption that is driving the trajectory towards calamity. The climate always changes. Can we adapt or modify the extremes? Capitalism needs a check. That check is democratic socialism. & environmentalism. To be decided.

We also have an over population problem causing problems world wide. Most of whom are the religious. Also countries with no belief in birth control. 🤷

I don't think anything practical can be done to reverse course quickly enough. I think in 50-100 years low lying areas of the world will be in deep trouble, including Manhattan, parts of the Florida, etc. We can, are, and will find various kinds of renewable sources which will replace fossil fuels one day, but not before significant damage is done.

Sadly I agree.

Hard to say. The UK and Europe now get more than half from renewables, which is getting somewhere, but it may be different in the US and the developing world, and is it enough ?

Here in the US, they have many working possibilities but all come at a cost an with consequences.

No. We are too lazy and greedy. We will measure the damage on the planet by dollars. What is acceptable?

The Sun is scheduled to explode or expand into a red giant stat in a few billion years. I think this immimate warming concern is nothing compared to the atmosphere in a few billion years.

That’s Arthur Eddington’s fusion sun, Shannon. The electric sun can go at any time.

@yvilletom maybe that's why the biblical prophesy says as it does as if things will happen sooner than 4 billion years. It always considered it possible the prophetic was a asteroid like that that killed off the dinosaurs.

...in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2 Peter 3:10

Yep.

There are always unintended consequences to ensue from any action. Nevertheless, I am certain the moving to renewable energy will result in much less damage to our environment.

Agreed.
