Mitch McConnell said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a cancer to the Republican Party.
You know who just demonstrated what is the caner on the Democrats' side?
These Democrats decided that they will not be left behind and said that Biden should declare national climate emergency now...... Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez, and Blumenauer.
Well done assholes. The nation is still in the middle of a once in centuries pandemic that has killed over 460,000 Americans, 2.3 million worldwide, people are burying their loved ones every day, scores are unemployed, schools are closed, businesses are closed, families are being thrown out of rental residences, people are desperate and what these imbeciles decide?... A NATIONAL CLIMATE EMERGENCY !!!! [.cnn.com]
No wonder why Democrats lose. It is a serious pandemic and they want the national emergency for the climate issue, not for the pandemic!!!!
They are not touch with the reality or with how people are living day to day. These extremist Democrats are on a personal dream of wanting communism in the most successful and powerful capitalist nation ever created. Don't you wonder why they don't go and live in a communist or a socialist country?
Throw these ratards out and let Biden run the country.
Many of us will find toe-holds for sharp criticism of Mr. Sanders and Ms. Ocasio-Cortez over the years, but this, and the way you have approached it, is not a good one. While the declaration of Climate Change as an emergency may sound shrill, as others have pointed out there is good grounds for doing so, both in terms of understanding the urgency of the disaster and (apparently, going by what others have said) the nuts and bolts of legislative mechanisms it unlocks.
Going by your original post, and by the responses you have made to others, here in this thread, I'm sorry to have to say this, but your understanding of the climate change emergency is severely lacking. I think you really just should study some of the issues in this area quite a bit more before getting up in arms in this way.
As well, as others have pointed out, a robust capable government (which presumably the Biden-Harris Administration will try to be) does take a "get in line" approach to life-and-death emergencies, but tries to be completely reality-oriented in its prioritizations and in multi-tasking. The Pandemic needs to be front and center, sure, but this does not (at all) preclude treating the climate change situation with strong urgency.
As others may also have mentioned there is also the possibility here (though what level of likelihood I don't know) of a direct connection point between climate change and the unlocking of deadly illnesses previously frozen in the ice.
OMG! Those monsters! Bernie and Ocasio-Cortez are evil!
Hmmm... let's see what this "climate emergency" is. It must be something extreme and awful and crazy, right?
"Such a declaration... would give Biden more power to combat global warming, including reinstating a ban on crude-oil exports and forcing companies to manufacture solar panels, electric-car charging stations and other elements of the so-called green economy."
"It says that in response to the national emergency, Biden should invest in major resiliency projects that will help prepare the country’s infrastructure for climate change’s impacts and make investments in clean energy that are socially and racially just."
Sanders said, "“What we need now is congressional leadership to stand up to the fossil fuel industry and tell them that their short-term profits are not more important than the future of the planet.''
Wow! Yea.. this is some real radical stuff there. These crazy lefties want to help clean up the environment and pollution and global warming! Why can't they do normal things like urge people to commit treason and attack the Capital, or spread conspiracy theories about space lasers, or downplay and lie about the global pandemic? Why do these lefties have to try and actually do something that might improve our country? Can't they be like conservatives and try to drag this country down?
Pretty stupid post. You've completely ignored the fact these "green deals" actually create jobs even though you spout "lack of employment" as one of the current problems ..... so you want to fix the employment problem but not really do anything?
None of that fancy stuff is required at this time. You can do this when president, not now on the Dollar and time of millions of other right thinking voters who chose Biden and not Bernie. Bernie was rejected and Biden was chosen by American people. Biden should not tolerate this shit from the two time failed presidential candidate whose support does not extend beyond a small left winger fringe group. Bernie has no voice, no mass appeal and no say in the national policy. He can rant in his Budget Committee, a bone thrown at him by Biden.
@St-Sinner So, did you want more jobs for the American people? Or did you just want to flap your face?
My point is focus on controlling the serious pandemic now. Don't continue to be weirdos. AOC is new but Bernie is freaking 80 years old and has learned nothing. He keeps being a waco.
@St-Sinner Controlling the pandemic won't put enough people back to work. They are starving now, shot or no shot. As bad as you say Biden is, (and I am not a Joe fan) he is apparently doing a lot better than you would.
It won't but suddenly climate change which has not even started yet will?
@St-Sinner Yes, it will. Consider the scope of changing the primary fuel source from fossil fuels to renewable energy and developing the required energy storage to make renewable energy work. So there is PLENTY of work there to be done. On top of all that, if the human species is to survive beyond the life of the Earth, we HAVE to be able to control our impact on the environment. This means anything learned, anything developed toward that end will not be a waste, what ever is done will contribute to our future.
Well, except for ultra conservative neanderthal remnants like yourself, they are all bound to go extinct due to their own stupidity and closed mindedness.
This is day dreaming and living in a la la land. Remember how we dreamed big and gave millions to wind mills and solar panel company that went bust and ran away with the money during Obama?
Fossil fuel should go and we must have clean energy but there will be a huge displacement of workers, industry and it will take decades. The economy will suffer short term setbacks.
We should do it but my point in the post is the time to talk is not in the middle of the pandemic. The post is not about discussing the merits of the climate change effort, it is the timing of it.
@St-Sinner The time to do it is during an employment crisis, as in RIGHT NOW!! Far more jobs will be created than destroyed in this transition. You are right. Timing is critical .... not so much for climate change IMHO, but for the economy and for the survival and well being of workaday humans. You should try working for a living, it would do you good.
Thanks for your response. I am currently out of the office and on the second tequila on this beautiful Friday evening. I will respond to you once I am back tomorrow morning. Thank you again for contacting St. Sinner.
Two different issues here.
Maybe. There are different angles to this issue, I agree. But talking about a national emergency for climate change in the middle of a serious pandemic that is killing thousands of Americans every day when they did not have to die and when we can accelerate the prevention to prevent further deaths? Who is funding and lobbying with Bernie? Alternative fuels industry?
Now Sinner, (I'd use your name, but you don't reveal it), perhaps you're being a bit harsh on our "Greens." Maybe spending some time and money on environmental stuff doesn't necessarily have to detract from protecting us from the Covid pandemic. So I guess I agree with most everybody else who responded: You're blowing smoke.
It sounds harsh but people have to start talking out loud about this crazy thinking which is untimely, unwise and unrequired at this time. Bernie has always been extremist and a waco ideas and policy weirdo.
It will detract us from the pandemic. By saying it is ok to divert attention or divide attention to something not as urgent, you are doing a disservice to millions of people who are dead-worried about dying in the pandemic. This is also a lack of empathy towards how serious the pandemic is.
What Bernie is doing is similar to what happened in the France's revolution.... “Let them eat cake” is the most famous quote attributed to Marie-Antoinette, the queen of France during the French Revolution. Climate change is a cake for now, it is a fancy policy at this time. It is not understanding what the problem is, not being aware what is going on. That is Bernie, always an extremist, always out of touch with people and their needs.
Why should we not say let us declare a national emergency give funds to Disney and other tourist attractions because the tourism industry is suffering, is dying? That is also very very important to some people. Should we declare a national emergency to save the tourist industry?
The "stupidity" and "cancer" is you. Most idiotic post of the day.
Climate change is absolutely an existential threat and there is no spare time to waste.
I don't see how working on one precludes the other - they are in two completely separate arenas.
Climate change is not an emergency, it is overhyped emergency. Efforts should be made, are being made and anybody who thinks climate change emergency now over pandemic is a priority does not live reality like Bernie, the Waco.
I guess you missed the point! The Pandemic and the Climate crisis are two different issues. We may get this pandemic under control within the next year. But, the Climate crisis will be an ongoing thing from here on out ...whatever little that can be done now, needs to be started! ASAP!
No, I did not miss the point. I understand Bernie stupidity very well.
Deaths from the pandemic is the priority number 1. If we contain it within a year, let us talk about climate change next year. Currently, we do not have enough vaccines, enough funds, enough distribution, enough hospital beds, enough doctors, nurses, not even enough burial grounds.... and you are saying let us jump on something else?
@St-Sinner no! I do more than one thing here in my own life...surely our government can do more than one thing at once! The pandemic is very important... and all around the world there are actions taking place to get this problem under control! After all...we had a person in charge that had no idea how in the hell to fix it...so that people were not sick or dying! He sidetracked all the Scientists that could have helped! I think that getting off on a tangent, makes us look foolish, wouldn’t you agree?
Do you have 330 million people in your household with trillions of Dollars in budget and deficits with 538 people questioning you every step of the way and there is a possibility that you may be thrown out of the house every 4 years?
Don't be ridiculous.
@St-Sinner how did you come to have those people at your doorstep? I live in an RV...no there are not people at my doorstep, and not here in this town! But, I would never diminish the ones that I do not know who are struggling! Biden is trying to address that problem as we write this...get hold of yourself!!
You really think that at this time when we do not have enough vaccines, enough funds, enough distribution, enough hospital beds, enough doctors, nurses, not even enough burial grounds... we should take up climate change... not as an issue but as a national emergency? No national emergency for the pandemic but for climate change when people are dying and shit worried every day?
@St-Sinner get hold of yourself! I am 81 next month and I haven’t gotten the vaccine yet, but I am not going off the rails!
Ok but Bernie drives me crazy.
@St-Sinner is that called a fixation? What is it hooked to in your psyche? Who does he represent that you think failed you? Bernie is a decent, kind...probably very forward thinking senior man. I have watched him for years and would trust him to protect me, if I needed protecting in any way. I can’t say that about everybody!
No fixation, a road block must cleared, crazy uncle Bernie is a boulder on a highway, causes accidents..... that drives me crazy
@St-Sinner I can drive 1500 miles back to Ga on I-20 or sometimes on 1-10. And I can do that thru Dallas/Ft Worth or San Antonio and Houston, with only short naps! I have no tickets or accidents in the last 20 yrs! I have been driving for 65 yrs, learned to drive in downtown Atlanta! What I don’t do is speed, because I get there at the same time the person who is speeding around me...got there! Granted some seniors are overly cautious, but most seniors are expert drivers! Relax, you are wearing your life out! Enjoy what you have left...even when you are driving!
Do you think 'merca is unable to handle more than one emergency at a time?
That would be very nice and ideal, wouldn't it?
But this question must be put to every human being in America who has lost someone to the pandemic or is suffering from it or its consequences and you will get the answer. It may not be the one you will like. We have not been able to get ne thing right for decades... not health care, not social programs, not deficit, not trade and not worldwide defense posture. Let us get one thing right about the serious magnanimous challenge we are facing right now.
We can't get things right because inefficient people without sound judgement like Bernie are occupying the chair in Congress for 30 long years without accomplishing anything for American people. Always sensationalism, always crazy, extreme, waco things.
What was sound here?
~ Make America a socialist country
~ Rip off millionaires and billionaires and give away free to all
~ Nobody should earn more than a million Dollars
~ I was not a communist
~ I was not a socialist
~ I am asking for your money again
~ Look at Cuba, what wonderful things they have done!
~ Look at Venezuela's success
~ I always like other socialist countries but want to live in America and criticize
~ Among all places in the world, I want to celebrate my honeymoon in America's number one arch enemy USSR
~ I am not fit, just had a heart attack in the middle of the campaign, I don't comb my hair on national TV interview, I walk hunchback, I am close to 80 years old, I have unfit demographics for American presidential race, my popularity is only limited to a left winger extremists group, I failed once, I am failing again but I still want to be president
~ I have been in Congress for 30 years, I am 80 years old but will not retire, not will give a chance to young people
Perhaps it's a bit shortsighted to consider either of these issues as an American or indeed any other national emergency. They're both global problems. To make any serious progress both need dealing with as such, and both need attention NOW.
What I actually imagine is that the pandemic will at some point be brought under satisfactory control from the viewpoint of one particular country, at which point that country will push dealing with climate change another year down the road whilst it envisages the next thing as being more urgent. If course this'll happen on different timescales in different parts of the world, so the next thing Covid will come back for another party while some other country celebrates their victory over it and finds another more exciting issue than climate to argue about. Etc etc. We humans can be unbelievably fucking stupid sometimes.
@Salo
I am not saying don't do anything about climate change but you really think that at this time when we do not have enough vaccines, enough funds, enough distribution, enough hospital beds, enough doctors, nurses, not even enough burial grounds... we should take up climate change... not as an issue but as a national emergency? No national emergency for the pandemic but for climate change when people are dying and shit worried every day?
@St-Sinner Yes thats almost correct, apart from your last sentence. I really think both should be treated as WORLD emergencies immediately. I hope in wrong in my impression that you seem to see it as all a matter for your country to sort out, as that won't help. But either nationally or internationally, yes, the money, the resources, the ability to research and develop robust global solutions, everything's available. Without pointing any fingers the only things standing in the way are the politicians and their enablers who would rather see the effort going into protecting their own gravy trains and, in the case of your country, ability to sell guns. I'm not singling you out, many countries are just as unwilling to publicly recognise the scale of the problems.
Once in a century ? Spanish flue , measles , tuberculoses , polio , typhoid , dysintary , malaria , plus two world wars , Vietnam , Korea , cold war , Afghanistan , Iran , just off the top of my head . Unfortunately , the world doesn't hit us one thing at a time and having breathable air , drinkable water , bees to pollinate our food , saving the forests , saving the various endangered species has to be done in spite of all the other problems , while it can still be done . Unfortunately Trump set these concerns way back .
Some of us agree. The pandemic is also an environmental issue and this issue exacerbates many of the other issues including the spread of infectious diseases. We have been loooong overdue to finally pay attention to the most pressing problem facing life on this planet (we are in the 6th great extinction - all due to humans) and their (not mine) POS tRump set us back even more.
It will all become clear to you once Nobody can breathe, and millions drown. Try to look a bit farther down the road, duuuuhhhhhhhh
Why look further down when we are at the cliff now?
When you talk about priorities, there is always number 1, 2, 3 and so on. The soundness of judgement is in deciding what are the top priorities. If they think climate change is above the pandemic, coming back to normal and slow/stop the daily deaths is more important than containing the pandemic threat, these idiots don't deserve to be in the public office and their mics must be taken away.
Anne!
You have a way with words that causes me to pour another glass... Salute!!!
Exactly. My SO is complaining about gas prices going up. Why should gas be cheap? Why are we so worried about saving a few dollars today — saying “eff you” to the planet and future generations? We need a longer view than our own tiny life.
I agree with the assessment. I may not agree with her POV but enjoy her usage of words.
@St-Sinner
You're one of the voices here Sinner, that I value as a lucid poster, and one who tolerates others' opinions.
Even more important to my way of thinking.... You've a sense of humor.
Carry on.
