ive always wanted to start an animal sanctuary for the less desireable critters. three legged dogs, cats missing an ear, blind horses, featherless birds, and especially emotionally traumatized animals. i want it to be out in the sticks somewhere. and i want to invite kids(especially city kids) to come spend some time there, learning and helping and growing. that sounds about right.

Dream achieved by retiring this past February 3rd.

From Office Space:

Bob: Looks like you’ve been missing quite a bit of work lately.

Peter Gibbons: Well, I wouldn’t say I’ve been MISSING it, Bob.

I can't say I've been missing work either. Work is highly overrated. My retirement funds are meager, so I'm going to say money is overrated too. LOL

I would write full-time, and do my artwork as well. I'd travel the country attending conventions, with my son at my side, meeting people and living life.

But alas, there are bills to be paid.

I wouldn't focus on a career. If I were independently wealthy (i.e., enough to live on comfortably for the rest of my life), I'd seek out a variety of volunteer opportunities (more mediation work, start doing literacy tutoring, etc.) and spend the rest of my "productive" time writing, practicing visual art, etc. My more passive time would include reading, Netflix, light chores (e.g., gardening), and leisurely physical activity like walking.

Helicopter pilot. It cost so much to train and get a license. I had to settle for flying gyrocopters.

You could have joined the Army and gone Warrant Officer.....

@SkotlandSkye. I was 18 in Vietnam welding on jet engines 12 hours a day. I was airforce. I didn't have a pilots license until I was around 30. You have to have a fixed wing before you can get a license for a rotary wing.

In Army...you don't have to have fixed wing first - helicopter pilots are WOs. But thank you for your service!

@SkotlandSkye I was to dumb back then to be any good at it. It took me a year before i soloed in a gyrocopter. It's like flying a tricycle with rotor blades. A simple yaw on a land would tumble you. Its a gutsy aircraft. Ive known some guys that died flying these things. I was at a fly In at Bensen Days in Florida. One day 2 guys crashed their aircraft and two guys died the next morning. The flight instructor had a heart attack and they crashed and died. Ugly. Sad.
