that assumes you don't have babies in the car that would run off or get kidnapped
and stores need to pay someone to do that stuff
it was part of the business
now they cut employees and still raise prices and pay low wages

Generalizations usually suck. I have five damaged disks, heart condition and a bi-lateral hernia. I can barely walk forty yards. Grocery shopping is difficult for me and a real pain(excuse the pun). I don't usually get everything I need. I can't predict the length of the line. This seems like a simple cure but its really superficial and insulting. And No. For the last thirty years, I have not had anyone to go shopping with me. So people don't get insulted by me leaving my cart so the kid will have a job.

May our lives never be so empty that we spend time thinking about what other people do with their shopping carts. I believe this is the most petty post I've ever seen on this website. Thank you for speaking up.

@LovinLarge I'm still in a bad mood because of the lady that struck me twice with her car in the parking lot. Its dangerous and we don't need people spending more time in the lot than necessary. And that's not the first time its happened.

@LovinLarge But then again,,,,,,,,Shopping carts lives matter?

@PondartIncbendog Please don't lose your great sense of humor!

@LovinLarge Braaaaaain damage is better than pickled cabbage.

I'm so sorry you have to live with so much pain. The meme says there's no excuse except in cases of a dire emergency. Painful walking is a dire emergency in my book.

@Lorajay How convenient that your book allows you to create your own definition of "emergency". Being disabled is not an emergency, it's a way of life just as legitimate as being able-bodied but by all means continue with the insults.

Sorry, you assume that someone's knee ( the one i had to have replaced Twice in less than 4 months) might not have begun throbbing in or before checkout, and of course when i get home i still have to bring things in & put them in the fridge,/freezer....or ask my neighbor to do so because my teeth are gritted on account of the pain. 😟
Every Single Step counts at this point!!! And it doesn't happen every time, and i grab a cart & use it/return it on the way in Every time!
But this meme makes the same sad assumptions as those who yell at "able-bodied" using the Handicapped spots, you have No Idea what is actually going on........

I hope this knee replacement works and you soon are free from walking or any other kind of pain.
The meme says the cart should be returned except in cases of a dire emergency. Painful walking is a dire emergency in my book.

@Lorajay the Second surgery, 3 years ago, "worked", as in, the glue didn't fail after just a few weeks like the first one, but the massive amount of scar tissue caused by re-opening the entire knee before the first surgery came close to being healed will never get better, it will Never stop swelling, hurting, clicking audibly, twisting unpredictably, & generally being unhelpful, the next (only!) step would be amputation....I think I will live with it "as is"

I guess I am highly moral as I always return the cart--no matter how far the return station, no matter the weather.

Also, if there were a hell, there would be a special place in it for those who abandon a refrigerated, or frozen, item on a random shelf in a store because they are too fucking lazy to take it back.

1

Yeah, I can get on board with this. There is some selfish motivation in returning it though.
A few years ago I posted about an altercation I had with a total cunt of a woman who put her shopping cart behind another person's car.

I'm always pretty irritated when someone just leaves it in a parking spot and makes that parking spot unusable. Maybe it irritates me because I am a little lazy and I feel obligated to put it up.

3

It's a selfish, lazy and self absorbed mentality. Yes I judge people based upon how they treat service industry workers, how they treat animals, in the US whether they tip properly, whether or not they litter and if perfectly able bodied people return their shopping carts.

1

Good analogy.
Some people are selfish. That is why so many supermarkets here put lock-chains on their trolleys, that release with a coin. Amazingly, even for a small value coin those selfish people will return the trolley, even though the coin represents a quarter of one percent of what they have just spent.

Aldi does that. It's 25¢. It can be annoying if you don't have a quarter. If you're too lazy to return the cart it'll cost you.

@barjoe The ones here usually accept a choice of coins.

@Petter The only store in the states that does this is Aldi, I don't know if you have them down under. It only will accept a quarter.

@barjoe Aldi's is my favorite store and I return my cart or give it to someone going in. I never take my quarter unless it's my last quarter. When someone tries to give me a quarter I usually tell them to just pass it on. Many people give me their cards and I definitely pass that one on.

@barjoe Here in Southern Spain we have Lidl, but not Aldi.

@Petter We have both but only Aldi makes you use the quarters for your cart.

@Lorajay Do they have Lidl where you live? Nice store. I have never shopped at Trader Joe's, my brother swears by them.

@Petter I'm pretty sure I needed a coin to get a basket in Seville.

@Petter, @barjoe we only recently got Aldis. Oklahoma City has a trader Joe's in the ritzy part of town.

@Lorajay Aldi is very reasonably priced and the quality is good. Bring your own bags. And have a quarter.

3

I always return the cart, always. It just ain't that difficult.

So, if you're severely disabled you're an animal.

If you are severely disabled, chances are you have someone with you who could return it. If not, I’m sure you could ask someone to stash it in the cart corral. Or ask the cashier if an employee could come with you to help you load your groceries and return the cart. How did you get the cart in the first place? That could be a clue.

@Barnie2years I am severely disabled and alone and there are many others like me. I need a cart to lean on to get from my car into the store to get an electric cart. I rely on people leaving a cart out for me to use.

The article doesn't say that someone who doesn't get someone to return the cart for them is an animal, it says that someone who is unable to the return the cart is an animal, a savage. Returning a shopping cart has nothing to do with the goodness of one's heart. This article is ableist and simplistic.

To say nothing of the fact that some peoples' jobs consist exclusively of rounding up shopping carts.

@Barnie2years i grabbed the nearest cart on the way in as sort of a walker...every time!!

@AnneWimsey me too! If someone is finished unloading as I go by I take theirs as well.

@AnneWimsey, @LovinLarge Not anywhere I shop. It is generally a neglected item until they run out of carts in the store. The supermarket closest to me has a slanted driveway towards the major highway. Abandoned carts, even more so on windy days, have a tendency to head toward the road. I’m sure you would be very understanding if you were driving by the entrance and a cart slammed into your car at 10mph (it’s a steep hill) because someone couldn’t walk three steps that secure it in a corral. On a really windy day at another center I watched one cart slam into three different cars before finally hitting a curb. I was too far away to chase it. But it’s OK, I’m sure they had a perfectly fine reason for leaving it in the middle of the parking lot (more than likely because they parked far away from other cars to avoid their car getting a door ding). All I’m saying is if there is a will, there is a way. And loose carts present dangers.

@Barnie2years I'm not able to walk very well, I am disabled too. Sometimes I put off groceries until I can walk. I struggle to get through shopping and need to get to the car asap and unload. They have people who will load your car for you and walk the cart back but that's not necessary. They get paid for this..

6

I find myself putting other people's carts away on a fairly often basis. My favorite was the time a cart was abandoned literally five or six feet from the corral.

Same here.
