It occurred to me that most, if not all, Republicans are also Xians. As such, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume the lessons from The Sermon on the Mount, particularly the Beatitudes, would be a guideline for their ideologies and behavior? They all want to be like Jesus and secure their place in Heaven, right?
. So how do they resolve the massive contradiction between the lessons of Jesus to "clothe the naked" and "feed the hungry" and "give alms to the poor" in forfeit of their earthly wealth with their seething hatred for socialism in all its forms?
. Jesus was a gigantic socialist and the so-called "Prosperity Gospel" doesn't exist in any version of their bible. They just made that up so they could claim that greed and the relentless acquisition of as much personal wealth as possible was good and right in the sight of God.

I don't know who's better at slinging their own bullshit, Xians or Republicans.

They are perfectly capable of completely separating morality from their lives.

Believers and Republicans are about equal on this. In my area they just know that Jesus would be against all these giveaways and free stuff.

What about all the free money the upper 1% take from the 99% under them. Socialism for the wealthy is OK by them.

In the US, “most people” are Christian. The more easily manipulated ones seem to be Republican.

Well…….apparently they both go hand in hand. And their shit comes from their mouth not their asshole.

If a Christian claims to be Republican, then they are actually a lying illogical atheist.

Where in "Republican agenda" is anything being done to full feed, clothe and house everyone so that no "Hungry Jesus, Naked Jesus, imprisoned Jesus or homeless Jesus exist?

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’📧 Matthew 25: 37-40

to paraphrase Robert Hamer
The members of the current GOP are not identifiable with of those new-fangled Christians who carry the principles of their faith uncomfortably into private life.

"Religion is not a matter of God, church, holy cause, etc. These are but accessories. The source of religious preoccupation is in the self, or rather the rejection of the self. Dedication in the obverse side of self-rejection. Man alone is a religious animal because, as Montaigne points out, it is a malady confined to man, and not seen in any other creature, to hate and despise ourselves." - Eric Hoffer, Author of The True Believer

Republicons are Christianists. They call themselves christian for the social and economic benefits, but there is no connection with any sermon on the mount or anything like that.

So then the teachings of Jesus are meaningless to them. Since Jesus is their ticket into Heaven what makes them think they're getting a ride on the golden express if they ignore everything he said and ostensibly stood for? Could it be that they don't actually believe any of the shit they claim to?

It's really all about conservative christian hypocrisy and their own close minded bigotries. The bible is just a weapon they freely wield against those they hate.

..

We have several agnostic members consider themselves conservative Republicans. Somehow they think just like the Christian Patriots.

Religions are just made-up nonsense and can be changed or modified to suit anyone's whims.

Not really.

Religion evolves so that it won't be eradicated.

This is actually true. That's why anyone can find something in the bible to justify their ideology whatever it may be, from " Love all mankind" to "Kill the Jews."

Repub Christians are only interested in the Old Testament, as far as they are concerned, Jesus never existed, much less that he was a socialist.

3

When I ask Republican friends that question, they all answer the same way: “The Bible doesn’t say the government is supposed to do those things. They are the responsibility of the individual. Its supposed to be voluntary; not compulsory.”

Then I ask, But what if individuals aren’t doing it? All I get is a shrug. It’s clearly not a priority for them.

Republicans and Christian Nationalist overlap a lot, their vin diagrams are almost one circle.
These are people with ideals they are willing to kill for.
I'm one of the people with ideals I'm willing to die for, which makes our world view better.
It's hard to be frivolously fanatical when it cost you your life but it's easy to be frivolously fanatical if it cost other people their lives.
Making conservatives in general very bad people indeed.
