I have a dilemma. My dad passed away close to 2 years ago. He was a grossly obese man with a multitude of health problems, so he had a handicap placard for his car. My mother to this day still uses it to park in handicapped spots. While her health is not the best, her doctor does recommend that she get some walking in - which she doesn't. I feel that if she thinks her health is impaired enough that she needs to park in handicapped spots, she should apply for her own and turn my dad's in.

I have brought up the subject to her and she said she is going to use it until it expires. I tried to let it go, but the other day I saw her parked at the grocery store and my blood just boiled! Would you rat your mom out?

People think their age is the only thing that counts. This arrogant behaviors earn my full lack of respect. Age is not an excuse.

2

I'd probably just make the placard disappear. There are people who legitimately need those spaces.

I loved my mother (since passed away) very much, BUT she booked absolutely no criticism and we learned very early never to even suggest anything...lol...lesson is: keep your mouth closed and peace reigns.

Do unto others.... and it is your mom. Are you willing to deal with the fallout if she ever finds out your ratted her out? And at the end of the day it should come down to - will it give you peace?

2

No, because she's my mom. If she gets in trouble for it, it's on her. Your relationship is more important than where she parks. Maybe you should offer to go walking out with her, then you'd have time together, and exercise at the same time.

Let her knos you are going to report the infraction and give her some time to remove the sign.

It would be a shame if it got misplaced.

Check your local laws. She may be breaking a local statute using a placard not in her name which could result in a fine up to jail time.

Still be an awful shame if she just misplaced it 1 day.

If your mom is just using it until it expired, I would drop it. It most likely is illegal, but she is older and if your grocery store parking is like here, it is a very busy place. The excerise gotten at the grocery store is fought with peril! I got my handicap sticker at a time I had difficulty walking and even then...'it would come and go' and people cannot see your pain, so they may not understand that you have issues! If the truth be know, older people can have issues that 'come and go!' A older person is comprised in parking lots, if there is a flair-up in their body.

Yes... while she doesn't need to park in a handicap space OTHERS DO..

In my state if she is using someone else's card you can get arrested. Ours are only issued for a year. Check the date-might be expired. I had one that I finally stopped using to get more exercise. Guessing it might have expired.

Are you the handicapped spots/placard police? What you should worry about is getting your mom healthier by taking her out for walks for example. Have her eat healthy, go shoppimg with her and show her which things are unhealthy

According to what the OP wrote, I am pretty sure his mother is not the type of person to let others to tell her what to do.

I can see why it would irritate you, but consider it small stuff and let it slide. It's your mother.

Just tear up the sticker or placard. She will get mad with you, but she will get over it. Remember: You will be doing it for her.

3

No let it go. It isn’t worth getting worked up over and causing a rift between you and your mom.

I have a feeling there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes here. But then, that’s none of my business. Kind of like this parking permit. If, after talking to her she just doesn’t care then I’d just let it Go.

I just have this innate sense of what is just and this irritates the heck out of me! You're right though, I should probably just let it go. Thank you

Your mother is a grown woman and can make her own mistakes. You have informed her so your duty is done. If she gets away with it she has a story to tell. If she gets caught then she’ll have a fine to pay and still have a story to tell.

If you do anything to interfere then it may cause some problems between the two of you. You have to decide if it is worth it. That’s my two cents worth. 🙂

Maybe take the placard when she isn't around and throw it away? and if she asks about it just tell her she must have lost it? lol.

I definitely wouldn't rat her out.

3

No, I would not tell on my mom.

I just wouldn't do anything at all to assist her misdeed.

5

No. It's not up to you. I tried something like that with my mom. It didn't go well.
