Anyone else like learning about communism?
Learning about the inner workings makes me appreciate the good parts of our society, but also see how in some ways we're the same.
I really enjoyed the book thrillers Red Roulette and Red Notice if you're interested in learning about crazy real-life experiences in the 2000s taking place on China and Russia. Both are written by authors who got on the wrong side of powerful people in government, with some horrific consequences.
Do you recommend similar types of books or videos?
What was your first introduction to the ideas of communism and/or how it's actually deployed by the state via Leninism? What do you think are the positives and negatives of these forms of government?
I enjoy videos about communism, real socialism (ie. democratic like in places like Europe), fascism, and capitalism. Don't let the failure of old time communism lead you to believe that capitalism is the answer. Capiitalism is as much, or more so, a failure as Stalinism.
The idea of communism is wonderful, but how can you implement communism without legal enforcement (and how can you legally enforce without the threat of violence)? The problem is "communism" only ever seems to be used as a cover to implement legal authoritarianism by a one-party state. Do you know of any successful examples of communism being enacted or enforced that didn't start with violence?
No I don't know of communism being successful anywhere, but communism isn''t democratic socialism. As I said, capitalism hasn't been successful either for the majority of the world's population.
