I see news and scientists celebrating the fact that "space trash" as they call it, could end up creating a crater in the moon when it slams into it.
Why is it okay that we get to damage other bodies in the solar system? Anybody else see this is a problem? We're trashing our planet, now we get to trash other celestial bodies?

How much junk was left up there from moon missions already?

This is certainly better than the junk in orbit that could take out a satellite or something.

There is no one on the moon to care.

I'm note sure about how I feel about a "crater" being created, but trash is trash. People create it and it must be disposed of. I'm not sure how putting it on the moon is worse/better than putting it somewhere on the planet earth. It's up there and it's gotta go somewhere. Is it better floating on around the earth or sitting on the surface of the moon? I have no idea.

Not going to be sitting, causing a massive crater

@lerlo ... and then it will sit there unless someone goes to pick it up. I'm as concerned about it creating a crater as I am a small meteor causing a crater on the moon.

If it was Chinese space junk, wonder how the reporting would differ. And not OK, they have lost control.

Least of our worries. No one said anything is "okay". And wouldn't it potentially be worse if there was other intelligence life and our space trash crashed into them instead of just our moon we already left almost a half million pounds of shit on?

@JeffMurray I watched a scientist / professor say it was okay so apparently we aren't seeing the same coverage. You get to see how dust moves on the moon oh boy

There is no PROFIT MARGIN- like the plastic floating island in the pacific ; and our own "recycling system( including NUCLEAR WASTE)
" ; same OLD story.....out of sight ,out of mind.
I agree 100% . I heard stories of bacteria
that may be used to eat plastic waste( they are experimenting with the concept ) ,but we are not pro active on many of these things.
Like the way fish FARMING ( aquaculture )
is currently done - they are taking the short cut to PROFIT<< with using ( and OVER USING ANTIBIOTICS ) ;polluting nearby water with affluent;and feeding them the next generation of wild spawn( or FINGERLINGS );--- there by making the situation worse than before.
Big corporations & hedge funds do not have a conscious > when the system collapses they can WALK away & taxpayers pick up the TAB . AN agreageous example is the (PFAS )
forever chemical that are declared SuperFund
Sites ,,,or MINES, or leaking GAS WELLS .
Stewardship of the earth is not just for individuals 🙄 but we aren't equipped ( lobbied up ) enough to get them to do the right action.
Very sad.
Thanx

Technically the moon is made up from pieces of the earth, so really it's just trashing more of what used to be the earth.

It's not all right, but the creators of this trash are very likely are not all that worried about trashing our planet as well😮💨
