Possibly the lamest question ever.

Do people in your town back into parking spaces, or is that a Texas thing? For some reason that is a big trend here. At least three times a week I have to wait for some yutz to back into a parking space. I see no advantage.

I back into my garage. I have a narrow driveway that goes downhill into my garage. Omaha winters and a slippery driveway means I want to be nose first up the hill. I also have stick shift cars that have a higher reverse ratio than first gear so easier to go forward slowly than reverse.

I’m also originally from Louisiana so genetics may play a role as well. ?

Prepper thing. Easier to do a tactical escape forward than reversing out.

I had a guy in an apartment complex I lived in park that way. I just nicknamed him quick get away guy.

I always back in but I got a cheater camera on the back of my Qashqai 😉

I do it sometimes.

I had to take the Smith Driving School course when I worked at Chevron. according to them, it is safest to pull through so you can drive straight out of the space, but if you have to do any backing up, it is better to back in. I guess the theory is you will be paying more attention then and are less likely to hop in, back up, and smack into somebody.

They did that in San Marcos, TX. The people hated it and they went back to the intelligent way to park an automobile. They do it on South Congress in Austin. STUPID,STUPID,STUPID!

Makes it quick on your way out...... Just saying... don't really care

You win!..it is a pretty lame question...lol

Hahaha nah I'm from all over ,west coast mainly ,I back in 98 percent of the time ,just makes it easier when pulling out

You would rather wait for them to back out? What do you do bulldoze them back into place or just run over the top of them? Don't know Texan law but if you run into the back of a vehicle here you are a fault.

Yep, same here. And yes, i'd rather wait for them to back out to leave. That makes sense, because then I have an empty parking space.

@phil21 You also have an empty space faster ... and leave faster.

Reversing in out of traffic is far safer than reversing out particularly when the number of stupids venting impatience and road rage are exponentially growing. I live in a state where angle parking nose first is the go.
I think that it stems from horse and horse and cart days when they were parked nose into the hitching rail. They no longer exist, in fact I suspect that a horse would be run over within 30 minutes of taking to the streets.

I keep intending for to complain that safety suggests that rear to kerb angle parking with nose slanting in the direction of future travel is far more advisable. But I live in a State of stupid bible bashers and god botherers.

I’m in MN and many do it here. I’m fairly amazed at people who do in a big truck. I drive a small Ford Focus and I’d never be able to back into a space. I’m a horrible backer upper

the army teaches people to do that so as to be ready for an emergency [ like 3 seconds will make any difference at all ]

Interesting. So there is a planned takeover of Texas and these people are undercover Black Ops!

I live in California and you can get a pretty hefty ticket for doing it because you usually have to go against traffic to get out---so not so much

You lost me. Why would you have to go against traffic to get out? It's actually easier to get out if you back in, which is - I suppose - the whole point of backing in.

@Yosemite62 most of our parking spots are slanted---so to get out you would either have to make a sharp turn, which there usually isn't room for, or go against traffic---on straight spots it wouldn't matter

@Karenl - Makes sense now. I guess I've never seen anyone back into an angled space, so it didn't even occur to me that someone would do that.

@Yosemite62 we have some very strange people out here

0

So? When they leave, they have to back out anyway, so what's your point?

0

Not very many people do it in CO.

0

They back into the spaces here in Newport News and throughout Virginia. It's especially aggravating when a damned SUV blocks the lane and takes forever to back into a space. I think its part of Trumpworld, to be rude and obnoxious. The irony is that in many places, if you back into a space, say in a public park or an off-the-road lot, you're saying you're gay and you're looking for sex.

I prefer the back-in or pull through method myself. As @Lifesgood208 alluded to, you never know when you're going to have to make a quick get away.

I only do it when I'm downtown.
