3 kids with shared parental and social up bringing experiences.
One rejects the church at 12 years old.
One joins the church and goes on to blame everyone else for her woes in life.
The third one becomes Wiccan.
The church goer is republican, voted for trump and claims Biden is an utter failure.
Even my Dad was puzzled by republican among us.

Unlearn? What a stupid word. How do you do that? I've learnt many things and then I've learnt that some of things I learnt were wrong or were lies so I stopped believing them to be true. But, I don't think I've ever "unlearnt" anything and I don't believe it's possible except in the context of brain damage.

@ErichZannIII you pinged one of my pet hates like "a raft of.." or "going forward.." those phrases like the word "unlearn" make me cringe, or want to kill someone 😅

I try to teach my Christian acquaintances that we are all our brother's keepers. Many Christian do not believe this anymore. As humanist I believe that Societies are made up of cooperative Individuals, and we all need to help one another. So I disagree with the bubble saying "I am not responsible for saving others."

Reread the bubble...there is no word "not" in it...you misread it perhaps? Or did I misinterpret what you meant?

Well described.

Beliefs to unlearn literally and relearn figuratively.

There is a scientific perspective from which all of these are true, but people don't want to know. What they want is for the cognitive dissonance to go away, so what they will do is abuse the messenger. Peace.

@Garban
From a particular (evolutionary) perspective, yes.

I think some people are innately more inclined to be followers, perhaps even most of them.

@Garban
It takes a good bit of study to understand it, but suffice it to say, whether indoctrination is required or not isn’t the determining factor.

The human capacity for complex culture (which is essentially defined as indoctrination) is an evolved trait, and is more flexible than evolved biology alone.

So when we find ourselves in a biological cul-de-sac, culture is able to evolve fast enough to bail us out (so far). Religion is the cultural counterbalance to evolutionary mismatch.

I have no time for any unspeakable asshole who rams those sorts of thoughts and feelings into any child.

Yeah, none of those things are true.

Religion, teaching self loathing since 3000 BCE.

True ever so True and ever so sadly True as well.
It is a well known thing that amongst the Christian Churches " too seek out those most vulnerable to the Christian Doctrines make for the best and easiest of targets."
And though the 'methods" may vary from CULT, YES I said CULT because that is, imo, ALL any Organised or Unorganised belief system really is, these basic tenets still apply, i.e.,
a) FIRST find the weakness/es of your target,
b) show as much pseudo-sympathy and pseudo-compassion as you can possibly muster up, even, if possible, shed a false tear or two as well,
3) allow your "target" to hug you for emotional comfort BUT never allow yourself to get involved in any way, merely PRETEND to care/be interested or involved in their emotions, etc,
4) as things BEGIN to calm/settle a little gently mention/suggest that a small short prayer will help by, at first bringing some comfort and then later, perhaps not today, tomorrow or even next week, but later when least expected God and Jesus will " enter in ti your heart, mind and thoughts and shall remove all your woes and cares, etc, etc,
That IS just the FIRST 4 of the NUMEROUS steps that the Faithfools will,take and re-take as many times as necessary to ensnare the unwary and drag them into their deluded little dream-world with them.

With just a few changes these are things many girls and women are taught about themselves.
