I think we have our topic, one thing that stood out to me after reading several posts is there is a real societal stigma to being an Atheist, there is discrimination and a fear of loss when it comes to family and friends. In fact, Glenn and I have been friends for over 45 years and it was only maybe 15 years ago that we each learned the other held no religious beliefs. Sooooo, I suggested that we use the first PodCast to discuss that. How each of us came to our disbelief. His mom is a non believer so I am sure he was raised with that acceptance in his family. I on the other hand came from a very religious set of parents. My Dad was raised in a Mennonite family, mom was not but still a believer. This will be an introductory podcast. I think it is an appropriate topic to begin with.

maybe call the show "Now What?" and explore the hard part of being an atheist, which is all the stuff that comes after one figures out the easy part that there is no god.

Most of them have been done, but to be topical. Why not ask if religion is not in part responsible for the promotion of the fear and hate culture which seems to be afflicting the US today ?

As in. Religion needs to fill pews, it does that by promoting fear, fear of chaos, fear of sin, fear of sinners, fear of foreigners with different values, fear of death, fear of losing tradition etc. But fear breeds hate, and that breeds distrust, which breeds more hate, which makes more fear, which sends people back to church and temple to be impregnated with more fear, in a never ending cycle.

Break the fear cycle, is a new topical angle.

I often think about religion as a pilar of tyranny. It's often related to political power, weaponized by it. I think about Putin and the russian orthodox church, all of those muslim califates, all of those right-wing western countries infuenced by different christian congregations.

For your safety? I live in semi-rural Covington, Ga. There are 9 churches, a Christian School and a christian drug rehab facility just within 3 miles of my house. I have been a well known vocal Atheist for 22 years since I moved here. I have never had a single issue even though this is very much in the Bible Belt.

Just go for it!

Write it from the perspective of a series of history lessons from the 32nd century. The student who's never experienced religion will need the absurdities of faith based belief explained to him in ways that allow him to believe and accept why it was the people believed and acted in such an irrational manner.

I think all such angles have already been done to death over the last 300+ years, ever since the start of the Age of Enlightenment, so the best that I can come up with are some ideas that seem to have not had much airing online:

• Is the Scientific Method a useful way of addressing the question of God? If so, why so? If not, why not?
• How relevant is the consideration of logical fallacies when it comes to claims of God?
• Where did the Committee of Little White Mice come from?
