I find it amusing and a bit exasperating that ANY disgreement about the Bible is automatically classified as "hostility toward god" by Xtians. An exchange on FB when I pointed out that Cain found a wife in Nod even though there is NO mention of other people being created (though some apologists say that god did--it's just not mentioned in the Bible). There is also no mention of Eve and Adam having any daughters.
I was, once again, told how hostile I am:
"it's also often the case that mankind's default position is hostility to God, the author of this book. an enmity towards the author of a book lends to uncharitable interpretations. that's why it's necessary to repent and believe in the lord Jesus Christ."
These people believe that Biblical characters lived hundreds of years--that's another way they explain the wife in Nod. By that time, Adam and Eve's kids had procreated and populated the the country (though, again, there is no record of a daughter for incestuous procreation).
I'm occasionally hostile to Xtians, but not often; refuting their claims is not hostility.
As for the Bible, it's there on the page--adding anything or assuming things are moot when there are no records to contradict or corroborate what is written.

So if there's a conflict then it can always be blamed on the OT vs NT mix up, except when it can't and in that case it was a metaphor or taken out of context or just fuzzy math or something like that. Goodness, I sound like a Trumper back pedaling all of the horrible things done by them and their leader over the past 5 years.

@Gwendolyn2018 It's a very strange and twisted reality when it comes to religion.
Even if you just take the bible as a history book, many history books omit a great deal of history and therefore are incomplets. So, a few people not being mentioned - no big deal. BTW, it's all mythology to me.

Tell them that their Bible is the most ungodly book of all, and that it was actually written by Satan worshipers. That should get them going. ( And using their own logic it would not be hard to make a case.)

@Gwendolyn2018 I said this on another post recently but it needs repeating. The religion of today is the mythology of tomorrow.
The indoctrination, very often from childhood, makes it almost impossible to reach these people. This is why they get to the children when they are so young. A child will normally Acquiesce to an adult and believe everything they tell them. That is the problem of why we cannot get rid of religion. 
I very rarely try to talk to any of them anymore, in my opinion it is a lost cause.

@Gwendolyn2018 I was so glad I was not raised with any religion! I never had to feel bad about not believing that bullshit just because some adult told me it was true.

Science, logic, mathematics, reasoning and common sense can't change their beliefs
So much is reinforced by extended family and the community they live in. Fear keeps them from acknowledging any other possibility. To even consider an alternative always ends with... "what if they're wrong and god is real?" They would rather deal with the familiar than take a chance.

Fear is about all religion gives them. It’s how the charlatans control “believers”. I’ve listened to some of these people talk about “hell and damnation”, “burning for eternity.” That kind of talk taken in at a young age is absorbed pretty easily, and like you said, if it’s “Reinforced by extended family” It can be hard to believe it’s not real. At least I have always assumed this.

@Unity. None of that matters, you’re so right. They are some of the strangest people to have a conversation with. Within moments of being in a conversation about religion, politics, human rights, whatever etc. they are shouting at you! I won’t engage with them anymore.
@Gwendolyn2018 Good, a rebellious girl/woman gets things done in life.
They get defensive for fear of being proven wrong. When they don't have answers then hostility is used to misdirect. Accusing others that question is easier than admitting they got it wrong.

Talking to a die hard believer is like talking to an unruly obstinate child. It's just not worth it.
@Gwendolyn2018 Sometimes we just have to accept that they may never change and adjust accordingly. That's what I have done with family and friends. I avoid the subject or redirect it. It's not worth fighting about. Live and let live is a motto I try to live by and as long as no one tries to "convert" me or bully me into accepting that "they are right and I'm wrong" then I just leave them to their fantasy.
Although...I will defend anyone who is being bullied.
