UPDATE:
I was able to go on the USPTO site and fill out the three forms I need to submit with my specification and drawings. Having filled them I saved them for submission.

When I attempted to submit them, I found out that what was saved was not the filled form, but the stupid error message screen I got when trying to fill the forms in Safari or Chrome (see pic).

I sent an email to USPTO for support on this fiasco. I included the following P.S.
"Iā€™m not saying anyone should be fired for this, but that would probably be more humane than what they really deserve."

Monday is a holiday, so it looks like the earliest I will get this done is Tuesday.

LATER UPDATE:

Just to see if it would work, I borrowed my neighbor's PC and tried to fill and save the forms. Forget save. Trying to load the form got me the same error screen (see pic).

Tech support will be hearing from me tomorrow morning.

--- end update ---

I have spent the last few weeks working on getting a patent filed. I had finally finished writing the application and putting together the figures. I was hoping to have it posted by late Friday afternoon, or early Friday evening.

Then I ran into a technical issue with the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office) web site. everything I need in the way of a form is on the site as a fillable form that will flow directly into the USPTO database.

Sounds great. The Patent office is using at least quasi current technology. Right?

Not so fast there buckaroo. After fighting their site for almost three hours I finally determined that it is not compatible with either Safari or Chrome. That's right, it doesn't work with two of the most widely used browsers.

I found my old copy of Firefox and it appears to work. Am I the only one sensing irony here?

If it does work, I should have everything in by tomorrow. I'm looking forward to letting you know about what I've been working on because I believe it will be a game changer.

I have 5 browsers installed because I develop web-based applications, and I need to make sure they work on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera.

I have been designing and programming web sites since 1994. That explains why I have Firefox on my Mac.

What's the patent?

I submitted a patent 30 years ago but 'just happened' to run into an interference of a patent filed a month before by Lawrence Livermore (who I believe got a copy of my preliminary filing and made it their own.).

I have used Mozilla stuff since it was formed as a counter against Microsoft, mainly by people who had lost their careers with other companies due to underhand Microsoft tactics.
For the same reason I use libreoffice.org rather than MS Office.

I use Chrome and am amazed how many things don't work properly with it.
