Hey,
How's everyone been?
It's been so long, I'd been avoiding social media, too much drama.
Wtf, is going on?!
Why all the division?
My eyes are bleeding.
It's looking very mainstream. Originally I joined for the free thinking. Politics is now a global uniparty. Left/right doesn't even matter anymore. Distracted folks are bickering like children & on their knees like sheeple.
Any thoughts or theories?

Actually there is more unity here on this site than you might think.

You only should read the things that interests you and not bother about the rest.

Well, you live in the US, like me, where we have had uniparty rule, at least since the late 80s, ever since. The only real differences these days, at the fed level, for the major parties, is the identity politics and culture wars, otherwise, the policies and agendas are pretty much the same, serving corporations and the ruling class with tax cuts and eliminating regulation of business, marching us to climate disaster, feeding the MIC and endless wars for oil and empire, etc. Right now, the Repubs are also moving towards open fascism and the end of elections, with a permanent dictatorship, while the Dems want to keep up the charade of democracy, with elections within the duopoly, instead of risking civil war and the disruption of civil war,, for their corporate masters to deal with. Both parties support the neofeudalism we have here, with neoliberal economics and trade policies, all to serve the rich and corporations, over the masses.

I see no hope for getting out of this death spiral, unless either the masses collectively ignore the corporate media, quit believing in the major parties, and vote third party only in fed elections, throwing out both major parties in DC. Not very likely and the only way we can vote our way out of this. The other way would be tens of millions no longer cooperating with corporate control of our government, long general strikes, and massive protests, but I am afraid that if the masses took that first route, and voted in a true labor or worker's party, the ruling classes would have the major parties implement a military crackdown, declare martial law, and then we would have to either fight it out in the streets against the now openly fascist government, or else end up under permanent dictatorship.

Your 1st paragraph is a pretty good summary of the status quo. Your 2nd is a pretty gloomy prognostication which may or may not turn out to be the future. For my part, I see the possibility that the slide toward fascism can be halted and things could actually improve. I'm gratified by the return of guilty verdicts in the sedition trial of Elmer Rhodes, the naming of a special prosecutor to bird dog Done Cheato in the J6 and classified documents cases, and the rejection of so many extremist candidates by voters in the recent election. Patches of blue in an otherwise threatening sky. At least the sky is not falling.

@Flyingsaucesir The 2nd paragraph, and your reply, are about whether we get the full on fascism of the Repubs or keep the charade of democracy the Dems prefer. Either way, we are going to remain really screwed, so I would not be rejoicing about the developments you are feeling optimistic about regarding Trump and the insurrectionists. Because in two years or so, even the charade of democracy could be gone for good with a Repub victory in two years, or civil war begun instead around that time.

@TomMcGiverin My friend, we have been here before. Reading your reply to the post, I knew it was you who had written it way before I got to the bottom and saw your thumbnail photo. And I know you did not need to read my reply to know the gist of what I would say. In fact, I have no illusion that I could ever lessen your pessimism. I only write for the benefit of others on this forum, so they may have some hope, and find the energy to fight the good fight. I truly think that fight is worthwhile. Nothing is written in stone. I don't think it is a lost cause. However, even if I did, I would rather go down fighting. I will never bend a knee to the likes of Trump and his mad MAGA minions, or the international criminal oligarchy who he whores for.

@Flyingsaucesir I will probably never give up my pessimism about our country and our system, until and unless it is somehow disproven, which in my lifetime, has only continued to get worse each decade, as far as my points in my first paragraph. What I do share with you, is to go down fighting, both literally and figuratively, against the assholes in both parties, as well as the ruling class both of them serve. I will keep fighting the case and cause for socialism until I die. I know that if it comes to civil war here, which I still think it will, I will have my gun and be ready to fight those pricks when the time comes, whether it is just defending myself when they come for me, or out in the streets if our side needs to actually go out there and fight them in the streets, the left against the right, with the cops and military, either on their side or, at best, standing back and standing by, in case the right is not able to beat us on its own.

@TomMcGiverin Right on.

The far left and far right are forcing me to the middle on everything. As for social media, I use it sparingly and ignore all politics.

A fading Christian GOP made a deal with Putin that hasn't gone well. The GQP still wants power, but Putin's intrusion has drained away what little ideology they had left. Only the 25% of full-blown Nazi bigots support where the party is headed.

My theory is that throughout all of human history conditions have improved for a while, then disintegrated. History is a story of ups and downs, then more ups and downs.

Everything looks entirely normal to me. If you listen to Pinker, things are better than they've ever been. And in some ways that's true. I don't feel it's as rosy as Pinker depicts, but there is some truth in what he says. Compared to the thirteenth century, things are pretty damn fine. Compared to fifty years ago... it looks like we are in the downward part of the cycle. Just hang on a couple hundred more years and it will be on the upswing again!
