I found another agnostic forum but this one is kind of new. Of all things bizarre and ridiculous they have threads that are meant to talk about the bible. WTF? Either you're agnostic or you give the bible credence. I don't think you can have both, like having your cake and eating it too.

Agnosticism is a large umbrella that could include people interested in religous texts. Atheism on the other hand (I'm an atheist btw) will most likely reject all religous texts or at the very least understand/view them as myths/allegory. I have no problem with someone identifying as Agnostic & reading the Bible. Once that person crosses over to Atheism I'd question their motives at that point but not before.

The forum is worth checking out. What is the name?

I think it's agnostic.com

@K9JetLee999 this is agnostic.com.

@GrooshStar I copy pasted the top of the page. Well since gremlins are messing with me (refuse to take blame) this is the address. [theagnosticforum.com]

@K9JetLee999 ty
although i truly appreciate the many atheists here, whom Jesus gave some of the highest praise to (“Go, and do likewise” )

@K9JetLee999 Oh! It says right at the top of it "non-partisan" which sounds good, but they also encourage Christians to join? I would hope they would be there to learn while being respectful that it's a forum for agnostics. Not sure it's for me, if the purpose is to argue. Thanks for posting the URL. Definitely going to be on the lookout for another forum if this one goes down the toilet. I do like the format of this one though.

@Julie808 I agree with you fully. Arguments are "won" when one side gives up. This does not mean much and is why I do not like to argue. I simply state my facts as logically as possible and then just move on. Seldom do any of us "convert" anyone. I. E. we will never convince the far right that bus loads of people are not showing up at polling places and all are allowed to vote without real credentials. It does not happen but I keep hearing it all the time.

@DenoPenno Ya know I went thru explanations why there isn't a god or bible written by liars and thieves and of course that ended the entire thread. Esp. when I went on to explain how miscarriages used to be called abortions and god (if god) is the biggest offender. He enjoys creating miscarriages even for couples determined to procreate. So YES god approves. End of conversation.

"An estimated 23 million miscarriages occur every year worldwide, translating to 44 pregnancy losses each minute. The pooled risk of miscarriage is 15·3% (95% CI 12·5-18·7%) of all recognised pregnancies. "

@DenoPenno, @Julie808 "It says right at the top of it "non-partisan" which sounds good, but they also encourage Christians to join? "
Yes you'll find a good many aren't quite ready to separate church from anything. The bible is, of course quoted etc because the words are gods word. No human intervention. I had enough of a time trying to set straight the sky daddy but they wouldn't hear of it. It's hard to change the mind of a brainwashed group that don't want to change.

Firstly, you can be interested in the bible and still be agnostic/atheist. In the same way, you can watch Star Trek or Lord of the Rings without going full cosplay. Possible benefits are multifold, and the cultural, historical and political influences deriving from it are well worthy of research. For example, I am a L. Cohen fan, and his lyrics are crammed with biblical references, the knowledge of which adds significantly to the enjoyment of his songs. Also, it is very satisfying to quote passages back to theists who often have never read it, just had it read to them. (I recently quoted Leviticus back to someone supporting a black anti-gay pastor. Pointing out that the same book that says that gays are evil also says it is okay for me to own him).
Armed with the knowledge of where someone comes from can be very useful in taking them to the right place. eg. If you are talking about environmental issues, point out that Noah (and by implication all of his descendants inc. us) was given ongoing responsibility for all earth's animals.
Then there is simple literary enjoyment in some passages. "Song of Songs" is well worth the read.
I would like to know where this forum is although I suspect that it might be a click-bait trap set up by evangelicals.

It's pretty much run by a kid or someone 20-30 yr old named Aaron. He isn't sure whether there's a god or not. He is moderator and owner of the site. It doesn't seem to be very crowded and perhaps my threads and photos won't take off for parts unknown.

I'm not bible fluent and that makes the constant god isn't real hard to take in every post I make. Why should I continue to debate the god/bible issue in every post? I don't wanna. People must read and digest that stuff themselves and come to their own conclusions.

@K9JetLee999 It is a personal decision and as so it is up to you, no shoulds involved. I personally feel that an academic interest is worth pursuing.

It could be that those of us who are agnostic also like to learn more about the stories our religious friends and family members hold so dear, so that we can either understand their love of these stories, or so we can understand how to show the contradictions and impossibilities.

I have no problem with wanting to understand the purpose of various myths, though I really feel the stories in the bible have no meaning for today's world. We have so much better literature now plus history to learn from.

i would say that human nature does not change, and once you understand the allegory in the Bible its pretty easy to basically put believers to shame

hidden deep within the bible is the call to agnosticism; “i don't know” might actually be The Pearl. He who says that he knows anything does not yet know it as he ought and you might note that Jesus clowned the religious of His day, while elevating the pagan and the atheist.

what forum, btw

correction: [theagnosticforum.com]. I, only on rare occasions, feel that reading the newer bible would give me more ammunition against some arguments. I do know the King James version because I was raIsed pretty much Jewish and all the things they had for kids to do my parents could pawn us off for a day.

@K9JetLee999 hmm. imo the kjv has some solid points, but also a lot of crap, and a lexicon reveals the garbage…but for a quickie, you know that believers’ “eternal” comes from “aion” which means “a space of time, an age?” and that they had a term for “forever,” that being “aidios.” Also “Jesus, Returning” cannot be Quoted one, single time. it would be “hupo strepho” in Greek, or “shuvu” in hebrew. (Jesus “comes, appears, is revealed,” but never “returns” ) and when you go looking? “Return to Me, and I will return to you” (OT) also OT, “No son of man may die for another’s sins” also, Esau ate “red stew” from Jacob, which is not too hard to equate with “Jesus, sacrifice.” “Esau have I hated” “There is only One Immortal…” “No one has ever gone up to heaven…” “All go to the same place” on and on
go rip their heads off lol

@K9JetLee999 if you read from the lexicon, and let believer chumps read from paid scribes, you will leave them in the dust, gritting their teeth! 😀 [biblehub.com]

@bbyrd009 Problem is that i was under 12 when I was forced to the Sat. classes and the plays they had about Passover or whatever. But the KJ version you get all the gory details of murder and mayhem. The new bible is tamer and there's less to debate if there's no blood and fire etc.

@K9JetLee999 to that i would say that once Conquest Genre in the OT is understood, all the gory details of murder and mayhem assume their place. The 49ers just “massacred” the Chiefs; who died?

@bbyrd009 The horse he rode in on?
