I'm 52. Is that old? I don't think so. I didn't think 52 was particularly old even when I was 22. Old*er, yes. But not necessarily old.

This morning, however, my body decided to remind me that it is, in fact, not 22 anymore. You see, at some point during the night, some muscle in my back, on the middle of the left side, decided to feel pulled or snapped in some way. I wasn't doing anything other than existing. I get plenty of excercise though I don't work out in a gym.

So this morning I leave you with the mental image of a not old 52 year old biker, wincing in pain as he tries to put on his socks and pants.

The first time a muscle went whacky in my neck I was 16 yo. Took a week of muscle relaxants to get it back on straight.

You're not old. You're human! lol

Hang in there!

LOL! I'm 52 also. My spinal problems make my body feel like 100, but inside, I'm forever 21. I'd say 16, but I want to be old enough to party. 😉

At 55, 52 doesn't seem old.

Lie on the floor up against the wall with your legs going up in an L shape, lie on a carpet or yoga mat like that for 5 minutes or so. It will allow all the muscles in your aching back to relax, release and let go.

@ScienceBiker Yes, but that won't relax that back mscle 🙂

Remember when we had to actually DO something to hurt? Now we get injured sleeping wrong. LOL. I don't feel 53 most days.
Today I subbed for elementary PE. They had free time and I taught kids how to "jump in" on a jump rope and jump back out. How do they not know? Bet tomorrow I'll feel shinbucked. Ha ha!

You know, I'm 56 and really beginning to feel like I might be old as I look back to the good "ol days" of the 70s/80s and kinda wonder where my life has gone. I know the world has not turned out the way I thought it would, especially politically, so I think that's making me feel nostalgic.

Dear Biker, I'm nearly 64 and still feel and think like I'm 18 except I can't run as fast to catch the chickies.
Age is mostly in the mind and attitude you impose upon yourself.
Stay Young in spirit or maybe drink some spirits!

5

You're still a young pup, what are you talking about ?

5

When I was 52 I still felt like a kid. But at 64 I'm finally feeling some age.

Yep, I am there myself... Slower in everything.

5

I hope not, I retired after over 25 years at 53. I am now 57 and still don't feel old. Of course I don't move like I did in my 20's, 30's, or 40's I still don't consider myself old. I think it depends on the individual, there are old people half our age and young people in their 90's

5

They say 50 is the new 30 which is nonsense, in fact 50 is the new 50. 50+years experience but still young and fit enough to enjoy life. Stay relevant and interested...putting on yer comfy pants and isolating yourself is what ages you...now where are my dancing shoes 😉

Get some Flexeril from your doctor. Do sme soul searching: how may times did you have to pull the bike up? That can cause progressive injuries. One time, when i got my first Japanese bike ( Honda CB 750) I lost my balance at a red light and slid down with the bike on top of me. I required help from an old coule in a car, who regarded me with disapproval . That small incident, probably 40 years ago, did some little damage to my spine which over the years got worse. Last year, I had my spine operated on. All is well, but i do not ride any more. But I am all right with socks and pants.

@ScienceBiker Oh no, I hate talking to dead people. But do get some remedy and don't continue to suffer.

I'm surprised you got a 750 up. Mine slipped on a wet tram line (we have trams in OZ) and it took me at least 10 minutes to get it up (the bike that is). Wasn't easy with all the car traffic. The bike was a bit of a wreck. I now ride a bicycle.

@jules4169 You know there is a trick they taught me.Sit with my back against the bike, hold the handlebar and push steadily with my legs. Did not work, of course, I am still a woman with no upper body strength, but the couple who stopped helped me to get out from under. The guys from the club came back, rescued me and the bike. I sold the motorcycle and wished I had my old one back, a 1952 Horex Imperator. Last year, I had my spine fused in three places. No more riding for me, maybe a bicycle if the surgeon gives the okay.

Had twinges here and there for the last few years, but still active, biking and enjoying life at 61 and 3/4.

Most people think I am significantly younger (as do I), but my knees won't let me run any more!

No specific injuries to mine, they just don't like running! Can cycle all day - 30+ miles no problem.

Well my friend funny you said that. I am two years ahead of you and I still exercise daily.... Lately I have noticed how simple things like putting socks on is becoming a freaking chore. Also, due to an old injure in my left shoulder, taking off my shirt everyday comes along with tons of profanity..... Whoever designed life sucks balls !!!!!!

4

I'm now 47 but I injured my right knee at 14 and developed neck issues as a teenager (apparently due to too much studying or typing on keyboards). Pain can show up and haunt you at any time of your life. It's what you do with it that's the most important thing. Let yourself heal then keep living your life. I don't at all feel old, definitely don't act old, and I think I actually feel better than when I was in my 20s.

3

The alternative is not to get any older. I am 88 and still am having fun. I simply accept the wear and tear of each year. Besides, I don't think there is anything after this.

3

It depends a lot on how you have treated your body during your lifetime. It also depends a lot on your attitude. I'm 57 and had a heart attack requiring triple bypass surgery. I have a bad back, asthma, emphysema, I smoke, and drink. I should have died a long time ago.
On the other hand, I just finished a 2 month long hitch hiking adventure that took me 5000 miles with a 2 week solo survival trip along the colorado river near Needles California. If I slip on a wet spot on the sidewalk and break my neck tomorrow, I will still have lived more than most 90 year olds. It's not about how long you live that makes one old. It's about how much you have lived. I've had a great life, and I hope you have had one too. May you live as long as you want, as well as you want, and love as long as you live.

Words of wisdom. I really like that you have hitch-hiked around. I have hitched every major road in California. That was when I was young though. Cheers to you (I'm drinking whiskey). I changed my diet recently now I eat whatever the hell I want and reduced servings of salads and vegetables.

3

Omgosh y'll scaring me. I'll be 33 later this year and I suffer with my back already :'(

2

I'm 53 and now thanks to you I am feeling really old now. Heheh

2

That's a bummer there, hope the pain goes away.

2

Just wait until you hit the late 70's and it changes daily with the weather.

2

You are Experienced.

When you are a teen, 52 sounds old, like grandparents. I am almost 70 now. You are still a young woman to me. I don't feel old myself.
