As an activist I have been wanting to do this for a long time. Today was my doctor and meds day and Walmart is my pharmacy. While there I decided to buy a lot of groceries. Wouldn't you know it. Trying to walk out the door a woman demanded to see my receipt. I refused. She told me she was just doing her job. I still refused and told her to call a cop. I was not going to do her job for her so we will see if the cop also works for Walmart. This was when she told me that I had every right to refuse and there was no way to force me to show that receipt. I felt vindicated and told her how damned stupid all of this really was. Others coming up behind me are showing her their receipts as if this is somehow a law now. I walked quietly on out the door and took my food to my car.

And meanwhile the shoplifter who concealed stuff on their person shows a receipt for a few items and walks out scott free. Probably happens a lot of the time.

Aw, Deno, you proved yourself able to bully one of the store’s lowest-paid employees, who in a few days may again be unemployed.

Next time, prove yourself an activist who’s able to tell her probably male manager what you told her.

What I hate is Sam's Club, I have 1 rotisserie chicken for $5 and I'm supposed to wait in a long line while they check all these huge orders. I put my cart to the side walk around everybody, my receipt in one hand, chicken in the other. I've done it twice and both times the lady marked my slip, gave me a knod and didn't say a word. I'm sure some Karen in the line might've been triggered. Oh well.

Given what Walmart is, I would think you would have arranged to get your prescription anywhere else.

I fear it is going to be a future trend.
Prices are going up with there space shuttle, especially in Australia.
Stealing from food stores is on the rise, and as prices and inflation increase, it will be a survival mechanism for the low paid, young, students, apprentices and unemployed.

I absolutely will not be subjected to a receipt inspection which is why I refuse to spend a cent at JB Hifi and Kmart.
There is no need for it. Stores have cameras and a multiple of security measures. I refuse to be branded a possible criminal just for shopping at any particular store.

It wouldn't have killed you to give her the 10 seconds it would've taken. What did you prove?

That he knows the law and does not comply with unlawful requests because it's easier to just shut up and comply.

you would be fine if the store demand you buy one of their shopping bags very time you shop there?
your rights are hard won yet you seen to find it better to give them away for the sake of complying???
Once something is given away it is gone forever that includes respect.

What was proven here is that this receipt check thing is not a law and you do not have to comply. Walmart is not the only store doing this you know, and it's going to catch on and become a big thing. When it does the cops will be on the side of the store just over a stupid receipt. The person at the door doing the receipt checking can see the checkout line that I just left. If they think that I am a thief then it follows that the checker must also be in on it. Did we conspire or are we secretly living together? Walmart in particular is of the opinion that the person in front of you with a Food Stamp card probably got it illegally. Self checkout is a joke and easy to cheat on. A quick stop at the exit door with a glance at the receipt and then your cart does not verify anything. A proper check would take longer than you spent getting through the checkout line. I don't think we are sheep, cattle, or thieves. These practices are the biggest disrespect of your person that I have ever seen. All a big joke.

I'll think twice before going into a Walmart. Is this commonplace there now? If any store tries to treat me like a criminal, it would be the last time I'd set foot in the damned place. Good for you!

I only do Walmart for auto parts or hardware because they're cheap. When I didn't have health insurance, I would get $4 scripts which helped me out at the time. I don't get groceries there. I guess for people in some parts, Wally World is their only option. I can't even stand to go near the parking lot.

That's standing up for your rights!

The receipt checker thing at big box stores is pretty ridiculous.
People have carts with 57 items, and they glance at the receipt
and then the cart. It looks like your papers are in order, you may leave.
