Also, I've never had to get any kind of licence for a bicycle or to sell things online.

Very true!!!!

1

Yeah, I wouldn't trust David Avocado Wolfe to tell me fire was hot. ?

2

So true. So many things are licensed and regulated

[voluntaryist.com]
" Actually, the turn of the century did not mark the beginning of political regulation of conveyances. Local and municipal governments were already regulating and licensing bicycle usage within their jurisdictions during the 1880s and 1890s. (Mason 42) For example, the city of Chicago had a "Wheel Tax" ordinance in effect in 1898, which required an annual license fee from all wagons, carriages, coaches, buggies, and bicycles"

Cut hair??... Really?

The incoherent doorknob that this meme is apparently quoting probably means cutting the hair of strangers in exchange for money. But adding those details would take away from the OUTRAGE.

Freedom is an illusion

Indeed a prison with the ocean for walls.

Yes, the times have changed.

Okay so! 125 years ago you could also knowingly market and sell things that contained deadly chemicals (mmmmm lead!). You could wipe out entire populations on animals and make them extinct (that's why there's restrictions on hunting and fishing) sell unsanitary food that could cause illness or death (food vending laws)

Regulations are in place because PEOPLE WILL ABUSE THEIR FREEDOMS AND KILL OTHERS WITHOUT HESITATION. You think deregulation is so great well need I remind you that 125 years ago people died very young all the time from being poisoned by their own people selling unregulated shit. Remember the ladies using the glow in the dark paint from watches to paint their nails and then DIED? Remember mercury poisoning?

God damn this pisses me off. I'm sorry you think getting a fishing license is such a huge breach of your freedom but Jesus tits regulations are in place for PROTECTION

Amen to that.....oops sorry, 'so be it' to that.....no...'you got that right',,,,yay. You are correct in your reasoning these regulations and laws are there for "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", the tenets of our founding fathers.

Things are different , but also still the same . Pesticides sprayed on our foods are affecting our health . They are spraying , Round Up , on grains before mowing the grains , because the cutting blades last longer , if the grain is killed before it is cut . BHT is added to flours to reduce the time it takes for the flour to bleach , by one day . Our drinking water is routinely being contaminated , due to poor mining and chemical processes . Sometimes , if given the chance , Mother Nature , can help to clean our atmosphere , but big corporations , who are willing to add money to someone's pocket , are taking the very resources that could help to restore the natural balance of our atmosphere .

@NotConvinced
...and you think the answer is total deregulation & letting the free market fix itself? Oh the folly of the American Libertarian.
Lets see how that works out in Utah in a few years when all the government protected land Trump just recently deregulated is raped & destroyed for profit. God Bless American Freedom!

@NotConvinced so you think that less regulations would help? Hey there already poisoning us why not let them do it legally and with more chemicals and worse conditions that makes sense just like the answer to getting less people shot is more guns or hey the cure to cancer should be more cancer

I agree, im somewhat of a misanthrope. If people were allowed complete Freedom there would be nothing but a huge mess. If given the choice between what is right and what is self-serving, the human animal will always choose the latter. corrupt Rich governments/ corporations who get away with murder, particularly in unregulated times, or massive numbers of selfish human Pricks Either way we're fucked -pick your poison

@Cast1es
Sadly Mother Nature doesn't give a shit, if the planets most intelligence stewards don't take responsibility & start making better choices the planet is doomed.

Own a slave, employ child labor, pollute & plunder the environment w/o restraint, lynch off white folk or those who are not the right religion with no real repercussion, ah the good ol' days...

They tend to overlook those parts. Setting up a lemonade stand carries more weight than hanging another human being. Everyone has their priorities.

Also: sell snake oil, run patently unsafe workplaces, ignore sanitation, have inaccessible public places... yeah, those sure were the halcyon days. ?

Although we "subjects of the crown" in the UK we can. Collect rain water, fish (sea fishing is fine but you need the permission of the person who owns the fishing rights elsewhere), start a business, renovate your home (up to extensions or loft conversions), hunt (again with the land owners permission but you cannot use dogs unless they are gun dogs). cut hair, sell a product, grow food on your property and we are one of the few countries where you can sail a boat without a licence. Oh and PS you do not need the govt permission to ride a bike or horse still just like 125 years ago.
