We still do, but the difference now is they're mostly to be found in only one Party. The transformation of the GOP into a fascist cult of personality is almost complete. But there are visible cracks in that facade, and they're getting bigger all the time. Trump is getting even more erratic, if that's possible, and he looks like he hasn't slept in a very long time. And he's broke. And his first criminal trial starts in 3 weeks.

He could be elected, then convicted before he takes office.

An innocent man would want to clear his name as soon as possible. He wouldn't engage in endless delay tactics.

You're showing more than a little ignorance here. Federal prosecutors do not bring charges unless they have sufficient evidence to land a conviction. That's why their success rate is up around 95%.

The standard for conviction that the prosecution has to meet in a criminal trial is guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. It's a very high bar.

If only one juror cannot decide, and it's a hung jury. They have to either retry the case or cut the defendant loose.

Again, any innocent man would want to clear his name as soon as possible.

Also note: just as any defendant has a right to a speedy trial, so does the public. And in this case, that is especially true. The electorate has a right to know if a candidate for the presidency is or is not guilty of felonies including defrauding the United States and attempting to disenfranchise 81,283,501 voters.

Trump should be eager to have his day in court. Any innocent man would. It's the only way to clear his name. But he doesn't want that. He's pulling out all the stops to stay out of court. It's not a good look.
