I don't understand why a man can't be a cat guy when it comes to pets, and not be given shit about it.

If he likes dogs, it's totally fine.. but prefer cats, let the idiotic emasculation comments roll. Ffs...

Cats are fucking awesome animals, who gives a shit what people think. That's how I feel about it....

I see nothing wrong with men liking cats. I don't see what the big deal is.

Owning a cat = a HUGE plus in my book, for any gender! You might be hanging with the wrong people...

it doesn't matter at all. if I want a fucking pink car and wear suspenders and own a cat called fuck off I will. it's just that simple. I just happen to be into dogs to live with. nothing more.

Anyone who thinks along those lines is behind the times - cat ownership by men is a trendy growth industry nowadays! [bbc.co.uk]

Hey, it's been a thing for me my whole life. My mother was a dog show person when I was younger so we had dogs a lot... especially collies since she bred & showed them. After she was done with it she began fostering for pets, and cats were always coming & going. I definitely learned what love & responsibility of a life was like then, and enjoyed it since I took care of the cats we saw. Loved it a ton and if I ever won a lottery, I'd open my own cat rescue/shelter.

It's just adolescent ignorance. Dogs are seen as a more macho because they are attack animals. I have been a dog person for years, but my wife is a cat person. I have come to appreciate and respect the independent intelligence of a cat with whom I have to work out an understanding relationship as opposed to the subservience of a dog.

I would say that cats attack more than dogs, and worse, they lure you in with purrs and a fluffy belly then turn on you at the drop of a hat, sinking in claws and teeth. No warning whatsoever. Cats are way more badass and little evil. 😉
Dogs typically give you a bit of a warning.
meow

@scurry I've never known of a cat to attack unless provoked, though I have been clawed while playing with a cat. (At least, I was playing.) With dogs, all the time, and sometimes without warning because they are so territorial and possessive. And I am a dog person. Your experience may vary.

Plus, I think you may be misconstruing the meaning of an attack animal. You can command a dog to attack someone. Ever try that with a cat?

@Heraclitus Agreed, for sure. Can't really command a cat to do anything.
My comment was mostly in jest; referring to the playful/not-so-playful attacks; belly-rub turned attack, or playing with a piece if string and getting a claw in the hand. But I've known cats to just be frustrated with something (like the weather) and take it out on someone's foot.
I get what you were saying too.

I love cats!! You can't train them. No one truly ever owns a cat!

3

I'm suspicious of anyone who says they don't like cats.
I understand that some people may like dogs more, but if you simply don't like cats...?

Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and Margaret Thatcher all disliked cats. Says it all.

Our house cats are fine.
And... nobody has ever given me any crap about me liking cats.

I know, I've heard those types of disparaging comments and I find them truly annoying.

I'm a cat guy. (A sucker for strays really) I also have dogs. Love them all, but my cats are @$$holes.

The type of pet one prefers has nothing to do with masculinity or femininity. So many of my guy friends love cats over dogs. Never saw it as an issue. If someone has a problem because they're not "masculine" then they're an idiot and not worth your time or energy.

I like both dogs and cats but prefer cats. They seem more affectionate and way less hassle.

You are just like me there. I like some signs but love & prefer cats. 🙂

A man & his cat. Cats are not pack animals save the African lion. One can not dominate a cat & so those who seek to, would most likely seek to dominate others. Also cats require far less investments of time, maintenance & attention. A well balanced person loves & respects the difference & joy each bring. I find more & more men acquiring & loving cats as urban living, employment demands, & travel opportunities avail themselves. This is progress as men evolve towards less tribalism & narrow definitions of masculinity. Props to manly cat affecianados.

I have three dogs and a cat. Plus there are probably 15+ stray cats I feed every day. I have a covered porch on this hundred year old house that I live in. I keep their bowls on and around a vinyl table I got at the dollar store. Some are friendly and let me pet 'em and some are very standoffish. I feel bad every time I have to pick one's little body out of the busy street in front of the house. 😟

You go, cat man! I think everyone, male, female, whatever you identify as, should love cats!

Always liked cats. My wife was a dog person/addict. she converted me to dogs of which I now have 5. But the cats run the show here, even sleeping on the bed with me.

I love cats. Perhaps not quite a "Crazy Cat Man", but not far off. And not ashamed of it, either.
