They do what they want. I am a retired teacher and what really pissed me off was a church that had service in the school on Sunday. Was in garner. What bullshit

Around here they use schools and municipal bldgs...of course the schoolkids get a day off out of it, sometimes. A church is just a big building with a big parking area, why not use it?

I've had to vote in a church several times here in Texas. I ALWAYS wear my I'm Secular and I vote shirt. Only had one older couple tell me they could "help me see the light" if I wanted to talk to them. Told them my light shines beautifully without any god, and that I hope they have a nice evening. The womans face was priceless with her mouth open and eyes as big as saucers!!

My polling place was moved out of a municipal building on a bus line to a mormon church on a street at least half a mile in either direction from a bus stop. The polling location was shared with a predominantly poverty-stricken area, so reliance on public transportation wasn't uncommon. There were no large signs to broadcast the change, and early mailouts didn't do anything to draw attention to the switched locations. If that's not voter suppression, I'll eat my dirty sock.

Doesn't bother me. Not like they've got anything else going on on a Tuesday

In the UK you vote wherever the polling station is located, it could be a school hall, church hall, gymnasium, it could even be out of the boot (trunk) of your car if you couldn't get into and open the polling station.

I have maimtained that we should be using fire stations and community centers not churches. All my precincts have been churches. I loathe it. Do it at a school or community center. Local fire department but NEVER a church.

Recently, I updated my voter registration, and discovered that my polling place is a baptist church. I've always voted in public schools, fire stations, or community centers.
I'm not particularly thrilled about this, but, logistically speaking, it's convenient as hell.
It's less than a mile from my home, and I can walk there.
I do plan to wear my Agnostic.com t-shirt on election day. Let's see if anyone has the
balls to say something about it to my face.

Stinks but they are normally free and many know how to get there.

Here in Southern Ohio, it's always a church or public school. A church seems less disruptive than closing the school gym for the day. Hey, it's just a building with an ornament on the peak.

Yes, happens a lot here. I don't mind at all. Church facilities are fairly cheap to rent, are usually accessible and offer locations in most of the city neighbourhoods. There is no praying and no proselytizing is allowed during the voting.
