I had a visit from my new neighbours the other day, A lovely young couple with two cute kids. I had been told that they are very religious. I asked the name of the children and the little boy is called Jireh, As the woman is of Philippines extraction I assumed it was name from that country but no it is biblical name meaning "given by god". We should have some interesting conversations to come
An old Baptist showed up at my door recently with his young grandson, Malachi. I spoke to them both and the old man gave me a bible tract. I gave it back and said I would not be going to church. Even now thinking on that boy's name, why did they name him that? Why not Nebuchadnezzar or something?
Good luck with that, hope it all remains civil for you.
Many very common names are derived from religion. My name [Dorothy] means " Gift from God". There are hundreds of others commonly used here in New England (which has a very long religious history) . No one here assumes extreme religious behavior based on that. At least I would not. I am an atheist, not an anti-religious person. I have had friends who are nuns. I do not hate people who are religious, but I hate it when someone tries to convert me. If I met those people I would ask them about the Philippines because I have never been and I like to learn about other peoples experiences and cultures. THe only think that would turn me off is if they tried to convert me.
By very religious I assume they attend church regularly. Local Church's is all about community, seeking out like minded people so I dare say that is why they are considered "devout" in gossip circles. They attend for social interactions more than anything else. Whatever takes their fancy, freedom of belief etc. Hopefully it is not shoved down their kids throats.
Sound like a nice couple. You may be conned into babysitting duties.
Surprised to see anything from you that has not been "redacted". I wonder what they have found so questionable about past posts. The situation here (US)would make a great comedy if it weren't true.
I am almost glad the UK also has religious nut jobs. In the USA I am positive that child would be teased due to the ignorance of most of the population.
When remoceling our home we found a contractor. He had a very unusual name (have to look at the contract to get it) and we asked him about this. He said his parents were into giving their children obscure names from the bible. I looked up names from the bible and there are hundreds. He said to just call him Scheck. He was not religious and was a great contractor.
You should dress up as a Jehovah, and go knocking!!!
It was just after hallowen and as I had put sweets outside my front door I asked if their kids had taken some to be told "We don't do halloween". Too devilish I suppose.
Be sure to take a bottle of holy water with ya!!! When they open the door, start sprinkling holy water around the threshold!! When they ask what your doing, tell them youβre exorcising an evil presence from their home!!!
