Hi All. Not sure who remembers Petter Finn of Mojacar, Spain. Wonderful, interesting, worldly and a great writer.
He passed away this year. I gave my condolences to his family. A great poet if you check some of his posts.

He turned me on to this site. He had some very interesting stories. Rest in peace. He was a very literate fellow. Observed a wide range of cultural practice's and he didn't miss the meaning behind the meaning. I will miss the occasional literary exchanges with Petter Finne.
Sad news indeed. Petter was an interesting fellow. Thank you for posting about his passing.
How sad! I used to video chat with him a while back ago before my mom got sick. He was a sweet and interesting man, so sorry to hear this!
Oh, that's sad to hear. He was a wonderful contributor to this site. He had given permission to share his poetry, if any of us had occasion to use it. Since I'm a funeral celebrant for the non-religious, I saved this one of his for future use. It seems fitting to re-post it here.
The End Of Sentience (my self-written obituary)
The day I die, that’s it. I’m Dead.
There’s really no need for crying.
The act of life, of birth and being,
Includes the act of dying.
No mausoleum, no funeral pyre,
Just lay me in the earth.
Let my body restore a part of what
It has plundered since its birth.
No platitudes, no priests, no myths
Of life in the everlasting.
Remember me for what I was.
Perhaps, gently regret my passing.
Perhaps, think of me as in the breeze,
But always bear in mind
It's just a ploy to ease the thoughts
Of those we leave behind.
We all must die; and yet live on,
Though neither in heaven nor hell:
But in genes, passed on, and on again
Down time’s eternal swell.
And also in deeds. The consequence
Of what we do on Earth
Can affect the lives of thousands
Who have yet to discover birth.
Judge not a life by piety,
But by things for which it stood.
Not from pious fear of godly wrath,
But from belief in the might of good.
It's possible we'll meet again
But only if, some day,
Men learn to bend the rules of time
And travel back this way.
For once I’ve died, that’s it. I’m dead!
My sentience ends that day.
It will not have an after-life:
There is no need to pray.
Petter Finne.
(please feel free to use it)
Thank you for posting this poem of Petter's. It is truly lovely.
Lovely. Thanks for sharing.
I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He always had interesting things to say.
Thanks for the notice, Marianne, I remember him..
Thanks for that information. I have been wondering how he was fairing. I spoke with him a few times on the phone. It rapidly became apparent that his right wing beliefs did not accord with my own philosophies however as you say he was clever with the poetry & use of English. He had some interesting yarns honed over many years of telling. How many were figments of his ego & how many real is always hard to corroborate. I'll fondly remember our exchanges even though he was largely a product of American propaganda & wmd. . . Probably neccessary for rising, from my memory, to VP in Otis Elevators Africa.
He was ill most of his time on this site but rarely mentioned it.
He was a child of colonialism. Born & raised in Kenya from memory. Even living for a while under the dictatorship of Big Daddy, Idi Amin.
Jeebus H...masterful job of damning the dead with faint praise ya got goin' here.
Well done?
@annewimsey500 sadly Anne you interpret what I write based upon your semitic programmed responses & denial of other's right to their opinion. . . "speak not ill of the dead" - how irrationally indoctrinated of you. I despise you.
@FrayedBear pray elucidate: what exactly is a "Semitic programmed reponse"????
Or, oh wait, calling me Jewish AS IF that were a slur or some kind? How surprising coming from you.....
And I hate the feeling that I need to say Ancient Normandy and Slovakia are my heritages.
@annewimsey500 Like Covid19 the Jewish diaspora has been world wide.
