Have you ever just been so fed up with society that you have considered moving off the grid and becoming a hermit?

Yes - but too addicted to coffee

I have over 300 coffee trees, I am set.

I'm an investigator for a municiple utility. Stolen utilities, unpaid bills & general craziness. On a daily badis, I am called everything but a child of god (colloquialism for being cussed out big time & usually threatened). My plan is to retire to tge middle of nowhere & only see or speak with people as seldom as possible.

Wouldn't mind being a hermit but none of that grizzly Adams stuff.

And miss the fun of pissing everyone off?????... Never

Does living within society as a hermit count?

I have lived most of my life in the high Sierras--so my survival skills are great. However, at my age, 68, and by myself it just isn't practical. If I had a partner that wanted to go with me, I would go in a heartbeat. It isn't for the faint of heart though--it's hard work.

Society, meh. It does what it does, I pick when I want to be involved, and to what extent.

At least once a day....lol.

Considered moving to Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic or Finland.

4

Absolutely! But now that I'm older, even though the thought is nice, it just wouldn't be practical.

No vote, I am a lover of partnered dancing... so there goes the off the grid and the hermit part. Is not fun to dissapear unless you do it in the middle of the city, in their faces!

Okay here's a movie for anyone who voted yes. It's a true story and it's one of my all time favorite movies. Before You decided to go off the grid watch this movie.

I've seen it. It's good and probably a 2-3 hankie movie.

@BeeHappy I have no idea what that means LOL

@paul1967 A tearjerker, you'll need 2-3 hankies. Lol

Not a hermit, but a hunter/wizard.

NO

More than a few times. It's fairly easy to go off the grid from what I read. The real problem is where to go after dropping off.

Fantasized about being a Jeremiah Johnson type..
..but I have too much affection for animals to trap beaver and shoot bears..
I also admire the culture of the Native Americans too much to shoot them either.
I'd be dead inside a week. ????⚰

I've got zero survivalist skills. I'd be dead as soon as it got cold.

I’m too much of a social creature to live like that.

2

Hahahaaaa, nope. I'd be dead inside of a month, probably.

I think about doing that in the mountains of North Carolina. Not off grid, must have plumbing, but isolated with no neighbors in sight.

Im in NC.

My family is from the mountains in NC. My mom’s family was from Elk Park. I lived there a couple years myself in the late 80s. Love Beech Mtn. And Grandfather Mtn.

Yes but it's hard to get off this planet unless the aliens come back for me.

I spent 7 years off the grid... working on returning.

Thus is the reason I purchased 35 acres in the 4 corners. But it is rough. Hauling water gets old fast. But I have learned why siesta culture exists & as a introvert I am in heaven if there was one.

1

Yes, but I won't do it. I'm much too social, and it wouldn't work out well for me.

The frequency of my thinking this way has been increasing at a nearly exponential rate, sadly.
