Driving to work today, listening to public radio, I heard the Governor of Louisiana taking caller questions, many about dire budget problems of the state. But one caller pointedly challenged the governor on his support of the current hyper-restrictive abortion legislation he intends to sign into law. The Governor flatly stated his Catholic/Christian faith directly informs his "pro-life views" and guides his governing policies. Can religion running government be any more plain than that? Ugh! Constitution? Who needs that when you've got priests and religious documents selectively interpreted to tell you how to make public policy? Does anyone else find this vomit-worthy? Or is it just me?

Religion is a cult and responsible for so much destruction throughout history and continues to this day.

I have come to realize that everything can be discussed, even if it gets a bit contentious. How else can people learn new and different ideas or find out about their erroneous ideas! People only need to feel safe in the place where ideas are exchanged! Unfortunately, everyone want fall in this category, for lack of emotional/educational development! We must keep on and not spend to much wasted energy worrying about all the others, who want or can’t understand!

I’m honestly tired of religious views having any weight on political views. I simply don’t believe our best interests are being served when the reasonability, rationality, and logic of a person making and enforcing laws for the masses, leads them to believe he’s being given direction from a higher power. I just don’t have any faith in those that follow faith.

Other than that I’ve spent way to much time listening to the nonsense.

These are grown freaking people for crying out loud! They’re acting like their invisible friends are more legitimate than little Johnny’s invisible friend that gets him sent to his room if he doesn’t abandon his friend!

I’m not sure why society continues to coddle this kind of behavior.

When the sidewalk Bible thumpers come knocking at my door they get one warning. I’ll gladly talk to you about your holy book, and the guy you believe it represents, but if you take the challenge “I will Rock Your Faith! I know the Bible better than most preachers and their entire congregation put together. I keep mine with me just Incase they forget theirs.

Politics is simply the interaction between people and communities. Organised politics is about control. Religion arose out of politics. It is about control. Developed into the first estate. Later laws were formulated to bring about the separation of powers. But they are still inextricably entwined. As Karl put it..."religion is the opiate of the masses" (ie. keep them stonkered). So this relationship cannot be ignored.

I agree with you and I like your analogy.

Anyone who regards reason, logic, and critical thinking as the best way to govern and make public policy damned well better be concerned with the encroachment of into our legislative and judicial process. That's in addition to being an atheist, I'm an anti-theist.

I don't know anyone who is ignoring the influence of religion on politics.

I enjoy hearing from people with diffrent backgrounds but have similar religious ideals as I do. I am a former factory worker and many people need my to hear my prospective.
