Did you make anything for your child's wedding?
My daughter Claire's wedding is Sept.15 at a winery in Chelan. It will be outdoors with a view of Lake Chelan, with dinner provided. I'm making my mother-of-the bride dress.
"We're going with a Spanish theme for the wedding," Claire, 28, said. "The colors will be maroon and black." Claire is half-Spanish.
Claire's dog, Cocoa, will be the ring bearer. I'm making a black, satin bow-tie for Cocoa to attach to his collar.
Also attached to Cocoa's collar will be a ring pouch. I'm making it from maroon satin, leftover from Claire's Halloween gypsy costume when she was 6-1/2. Brings back sweet memories.
Claire just wrote: "Oh my gosh mom!!! How incredible!! That is so meaningful, I can’t believe you have the fabric still."

I love Lake Chelan. One dream was to kayak the length of the lake from Chelan to Stehekin (about 50 miles). This is an amazing and unique place. Unfortunately, I was not present at my daughter's wedding (we were estranged for 20 years). I know you will have an enjoyable and memorable time.

What a wonderful idea. I made my dress for my daughter's wedding and a beautiful shawl to wear with it. She and I are Pagan, and my son in law is Jewish, so they had a Jewish/Pagan wedding. Her dress was a beautiful, coppery-brown lace, and very midieval looking. I wanted a dress to add to the Pagan side of the wedding, so mine was a dark maroon, crushed velvet dress. My 2nd daughter had died several years before the wedding, so I gave my daughter one of her Special Olympic medals, and she put it in her flowers.

Like you, the dress I'm making is a deep maroon. I bought the fabric before Claire said maroon is one of her wedding colors. I'll blend in. Will post a photo of me in the dress later.

As a matter of fact, yes, I did. My daughter and son-in-law wanted a backdrop for their reception (I consider that part of the wedding), so I made them one. It was like a huge wooden pallet with sheer curtains draped on either side, and had a big heart with an arrow through it and their names. Someone else did the curtains and heart.
The tricky part was that it was 6'X8', and required skids on the bottom to hold it up. And I had to transport it to the reception site, about 70 miles, in my Mini Cooper, and assemble it onsite. Two of the vertical stanchions were 8' long, so I had to cut them small enough to fit in the car and then splice them together upon assembly.
It was actually fun figuring out how to do all that, and everybody liked the end result, which was very gratifying.

Sounds lovely!
Neither of my grown kids are married, although they usually have significant others.
I didn't recommend marriage at all while they were growing up, and kept saying that they could spend as much money on their pets and themselves as they liked..it was STILL less expensive than children.
Both my kids are androgyne, as I am, and, like me, don't seem at all interested in marriage and starting families..more geared toward pursuing their passions.

Just finished making the wedding ring pouch. It has a snap closure and lighter maroon lining. The elastic loop on the back will slide onto Cocoa's collar.
"No Velcro!" my daughter said. "You, too?" her fiance' Matt replied. "I hate the sound of Velcro ripping!" They shuddered and laughed.
Was reduced to hand-sewing because my sewing machine is in the repair shop for the weekend.

Have you tried it on the dog yet? I think you've done a great job. The wedding sounds like it will be very memorable.
@AstralSmoke, Claire lives 120 miles away over the Cascade Mountains. I'm going to make the dog's bow-tie next, and mail the two items to her. After I sent her pictures, she replied:
"Oh wow mom!!!! I’m so in love with the pouch!!! Thank you so much

Absolutely! In her late teens and early 20's, Claire went through a period of hating her parents. "This is temporary," was my mantra.
Since then, Claire has become more appreciative, respectful and loving each year.
@LiterateHiker My late partner's daughter once told her "mom, you know all those times I said I hated you?" She then said "Thank you!" Parenting can be tough and sometimes the adage "this hurts me more than you" is true.
