What is the significance of this picture? I’ll admit I didn’t realize it until it was pointed out to me about ten or so years ago.

The Earth is only half of a disc!

I get that the point your are making about the only human alive not in the picture. that fact is cool. but the real significance for me, is the totality of the american endeavor to further our horizons. that we followed up on one of kennedy's grand ideas, to persevere through all the major trials and tribulations of the space program. and the usual american outcome of saying "Now What" and just giving it all up. been there, done that. sad

Earth-rise from orbit around the moon.

Who out there is in this picture? I am. ?

Every organism save one that has ever inhabited our plant is in this photo. And the earth is not flat. And yes we went to the moon.

Pink Floyd, "Dark Side of the Moon".....

A lot of my family pictures are like this, I'm the one taking the shot. They don't have that "every living person" vibe, but ok.

The person behind the camera is the only human being alive at that time, who is not in the frame of the photo

Interesting.

That photo was taken by Michael Collins. He stayed behind in Apollo 11, while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin went down to the moon's surface in the Lunar Module.

How is that significant?

@bingst Because there are those who say it affirms the whole "the Moon landing was staged" bullshit. "If no one else was there, who took the picutre??" They always forget Michael Collins was up there, too. They do that because they're fucking stupid, and think everyone else is, too.

@KKGator Ah... okay. I forgot about the deniers.

@bingst That's okay. I try to forget about them, too.

@Rideauxb Well, the original question said nothing about "living people" in or out of the picture. I was just answering the originally posted query.
It's all good.

@Rideauxb ahem you mean my answer right? Just in case we won anything lol.

It’s neil n buzz flying the ascent stage of the lunar module back to the command n service capsule where Michael Collins remained in orbit around the moon, with earth in the background. So every human alive is in that frame except one. If there’s any other significance I didn’t think of do tell 🙂

1

The Lunar Module and the Landing module separated. Something like that. ???

2

Who took it.... Or how was it taken? The camera is above the Moon's surface.

Are you going to give us the answer, or just leave it hanging there? 😛

1

Rideauxb, I know the answer, but I won't spoil it for others. I will message it to you privately.

Damn you! 😛

@bingst See my post above. It's an easy one.

Whoever took it is the only person living or dead on not in the photo

It shows the far side of the moon?

It would have to be, wouldn't it? I think that would apply to any photo that shows Earth in the background.
