We released a new tag feature for all posts today and wanted to explain it a little. Tags are just 1-3 word keywords (e.g., #love, #ClimateChange ) that help and find categorize topics. When you submit a post, we automatically look for words and phrases that could be used as tags and then show them under your posts. If it is your post, you can add new tags or remove these default tags by clicking the “down arrow” that shows up for post owners to the right of each tag. These arrows are a way for you to up or down vote a tag.
The goals of the tags are to make it easier to find posts as well as to combine posts with similar content. As it’s impossible for us to come up with the right tags, we want to enlist your help in managing the tags. We do this by tag voting.
Each tag on a post has a vote “score” that starts at 30. Other members who are at least level 2 can vote up or down. Why they do, the score is increased or decreased by their level number. For example if a level 5 member “up votes” the tag, then the score is increase by 5. Once a tag gets a negative score it doesn’t show up on the post. Please note that as this is a new feature, we will probably be tweaking these behaviors. If you vote a tag up (or you added it to a post), the tag will show up gold instead of purple. If you change your mind, simply vote “down” and the tag will disappear. If you vote down, you won’t see the tag anymore on the post (but it might show up to others if the votes are high enough). Tags are sorted by the highest score first. Complicated? Yah, maybe. Let’s see how it goes.
For a bonus, every time you vote on a tag, you get 1 point. Also, as we want to encourage you to create good new tags, every time someone uses a tag that you create, you also get a point. You can help organize posts by putting the tag in your comments too - for example, if you see a new post about what to do about "saying grace" at a friends house, you can just type " See #SayingGrace " and it will make a link to it.
Oh, you also can now see which tags are most used in your posts by going to your profile page and clicking the “# tags” button on the “Posts” tab.
If you type a tag in your comments and it doesn't make a link, that typically means that that tag is either not used or not allowed.
Hopefully, this will improve the tags for all posts and enable us to create a “Theme” section on this site to highlight posts that are related. For example, we can have a “Newly Agnostic” theme for people who just left a church with a list of related tags. Or “Christian Holidays” theme about how to handle holiday related issues. These are just ideas that we’re considering… among fixing bugs, getting the App live, and other things. Happy Holidays everyone!
Keep it up.... you guys continue to rock... a proud member since Nov 6th 2017.
I finally found the #tag listing and added it to my notes (whew). However, as a career records manager I am going to be a bit anal here; is it possible to list the tags alphabetically? It would make the long listing easier to use.
Since there could be 1000+ tags, it might not be useful to sort them alphabetically (but I'll see if can do... it requires pagination/etc). For now, if you start typing two letters, it shows you the tags that start with them.
@Admin That is OK. I downloaded the tags on word, transferred them to Excel and alphabetized them. I will try and keep up. It helps a lot when searching a particular tag.
Cool! Thank you for your on-going cleverness, #AwesomeAdmins - it's very much appreciated!
Jus twent through my posts and updated tags-easy
