It's sad. Suicide means someone thinks there is no hope. In my mind, there is ALWAYS hope...you have to be your own change agent sometimes, though. There are points in our lives where only we determine how we proceed, which direction, and being brave enough to make those life changes that will result in happiness is hard work.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.....for the most part. It is a response to the anguish of mental illness which is a brain affliction. Mental illness can often be addressed with medication but has a stigma so that folks avoid the intervention of the medical community. It is difficult to sympathize when there are children involved. Regardless of how sick ones mind is, to take a parent from a child is unconscionable. How is a child to absorb such an act? An adult has more life experience & can seek the answers with far more aplomb than a child. The movie "You Before Me" is topical on this subject. But bring plenty of tissue.

It should be made easier for people.

I truly believe, that if a pill existed that guaranteed instantaneous and painless death, the global human population would decrease by at least twenty percent within a few years.

"I'm dying"

Yep, we all are DZ!

@Abbelyne

Nah that's not true.

Counter productive toward my view of the meaning of life. Born live reproduce survive.

@SallyMc the most important part of it is the survive part. The reproduce parts more for the growth of the species.

Well said CMD 😉

I'm all for it in other people but not for myself at the moment. The problem is the fallout on other people, that's the real issue because the person who commits suicide successfully is now dead and it is the survivors who are left with the mess.

What if the person who suicides doesn't have anyone else.......?

I believe that suicide is a symptom of a larger problem. I wish there wasn't such a negative stigma around mental health services, especially for our service members.

I believe a person should have every right to make that decision. But I wish there were also other affordable mainstream options available to them.

It is an individual decision and choice.

I think it's a deeply personal choice that takes some serious bravery to accomplish.

I think people should have the right to choose a end of life plan. Just someone taking their life.

Apart from terminal illness which is likely to be be painful, uncomfortable, undignified, drawn-out etc
Then there is no real acceptable reason to commit suicide. Depression can be treated. Personal circumstances can change for the better. People kill themselves when they feel the walls are closing in on them..they get dark tunnel vision..seeing no way out..they feel they have literally run out of options..they are than in a dangerous spiral of suicidal thought.
Many people don't recognise that they are depressed ..they don't reach out..they do the opposite..they withdraw..this is what actually ends their life. ..hopelessness and despair.
Hope is a fine thing..they say it may be one of the greatest things..it is one thing that can fight despair.

I accept it. What's the big deal? Just drift away into sleep.

I didnt' ask to be here and I should be able to leave whenever I want. I did post on assisted suicide, not sure if you can check for my posts in case you're interested. I did lose a friend recently to suicide and had no idea she was planning it. PLEASE if you're thinking about it--talk to people you care about. Although certainly your right it's a pretty selfish thing to do to your family.

I'm so dismayed to hear people labelling those who choose suicide 'selfish'. If doesn't help. It just creates shame. We don't live our lives for other people. And like you say, people do not choose to be born into this world.

So if anything, the people who chose to bring a child into the world (who later chooses suicide) are selfish.

@Ellatynemouth I'm pretty sure you just agreed with me. If they have children and they are deserting them I think you agree that could be construed as selfish. Which is I suggested that if they are having thoughts of it they talk it over with their family first

@lerlo

I don't agree. Having children is selfish. Choosing suicide is not.

@Ellatynemouth So with that logic, instead of taking away the love and support the kids had by committing suicide being selfish, you're saying that the suicide actually helps the kids because it gets the selfish person that had them out of their lives.

@lerlo

No.

Some people are unhappy in life and so they kill themselves. This is a fact.

It is also a fact that some parents are crap, or even abusive. Some parents live in terrible poverty.

It is incredibly selfish for anyone to choose to bring a child into that kind of world, knowing they will might suffer. Love is not enough.
