I couldn't access the post you had brought this topic up on, so thought I'd comment real quick here. While you may be right in thinking that the ability to easily see who has viewed your profile could possibly lead to trouble, all in all I think it's useful and should be kept as an option for those interested in it. Personally, it doesn't matter to me who visits my profile, I have both those who I'd call friends and even those who disagree with my views visit my profile and I'm fine with that. As time permits me, I try to reciprocate and visit the profiles of those who visited me to give some up votes and comment on their posts. I would want to be notified whenever someone else is interested in my profile, even though I'm not here for the dating part.
