CAN  any Country SURVIVE GIVEN THE FOLLOWING?

The folks who are getting free stuff, don't like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.

The folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop, and the folks who are getting the free stuff want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff they are already getting!

Now... The people who are forcing the people to pay for the free stuff have told the people who are RECEIVING the free stuff, that the people who are PAYING for the free stuff, are being mean, prejudiced, and racist.

So... The people who are GETTING the free stuff have been convinced (by the people who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff), that they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff and giving them the free stuff in the first place.

We have let the (free stuff giving), go on for so long that there are now MORE people getting free stuff than paying for their stuff.

Now understand this: all great democracies have committed financial suicide somewhere between 200 and 250 years after being founded. The reason? The voters figured out that they could vote themselves money from the treasury by electing people who promised to give them money from the treasury in exchange for electing them.

Thomas Jefferson said it best: “Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not”.

The number of people now getting free stuff outnumbers the number of people paying for the free stuff in South Africa. We have one chance to change that at the next election.... will we?

South Africa is going through difficult and turbulent times at the moment. I live a large part of the year in Spain where the Civil War which ended nearly 80 years ago still casts long shadows. Apartheid in SA only ended in 1994. It will take a long time to build a genuinely egalitarian and democratic state.

Where thier is a will there is a way ! The will is just not here ?

@VAL3941 I know a number of South Africans who would disagree with you. They are working hard to bring about a better life for everyone. It is hard, but you are living through difficult times.

@CeliaVL
I am talking about the majority, not the few ?

@VAL3941 I think you will find that the majority want a decent life for themselves and their families and a more equal distribution of your country's considerable wealth in land and resources.

@CeliaVL
What they want and what they get for not putting any effort in is two different things !!

@VAL3941 In any country the majority of ordinary people work hard for themselves and their families. A minority are unable to do so and a few are freeloaders. Every country is the same, with slightly differing numbers.

@CeliaVL Here vastly differing numbers.

Yep, all sounds reasonable until you look behind the masks.
Capitalism, democracy, communism, whatever.
Look who has the power, look who is rich.
Average workers are not rich.
Our Government point the finger at those on welfare, currently demonising the disabled.
Yet politicians are continually being caught rorting hundreds of thousands, even their legitimate payments are unethical and immoral.
Trouble with the rat race, is that in order to compete you have to be a rat. To win you must be a better rat.
I try not to play.

Your choice !

Good post VAL.

Thank you !

Um... you do realize that the rich (those who are paying for the stuff) are getting richer not poorer right? The people who are getting free stuff (poor people on welfare), in the vast majority of cases don’t want to be in the situation they are in (why would you want to be poor?). The issue is that the welfare system is poorly designed such that getting out of it is extremely hard to do.

I agree, but does not alter the fact that what is,, is ?

@VAL3941 I don't understand your statement. Your OP seems to be the argument that welfare will inevitable drain all resources from those who pay into the system. I pointed out that those who are paying into it aren't loosing resources, but are gaining them. If you agree then what is the issue?

@Katrik
We are talking mainly SA here, not affluent America !

And all the while you're whining about people getting "free" stuff, corporate welfare is robbing you blind.

That too, yes !

Does a country without compassion for the less fortunate deserve to survive? Who wants to live in a country with a government that only takes care of its wealthiest citizens?

Go and live in SA then and then you can comment ? Read the pist correctly please !

You're so right We should just let all those lazy ass people who are too ill or infirm to take care of themselves to get off their dead asses (literally) and get to work.

Or, as the Eskimos tell their infirm:
"Time to go to the glacier."

That's right. And let those multitudes of helpless, unfortunate,innocent children die of disease, exposure & starvation.

@Countrywoman
We are not talking about children here. Don't presume for ond minute we don't care about them ?
