That is what one can expect when religion dominates the culture and government.

And they have mandatory military service for 2 years like other Middle Eastern countries.

In Brazil military service is mandatory for 18 males for 4 years!

I djdn't know that. My friend and his wife Arlene are visiting family there now. He's over 40 though-too old?

Oddly, it's wrapped up in legislation to prevent violence against children?

“The most severe cases may spread the ideology of terrorist and atheist and extremist to the extent of destroying children's future and create a project of young terrorists recruited through organized criminal terrorist groups, working to destroy homeland and dissemination of terrorism," argued Azza El Ashmawi, Secretary General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM).

Interesting. So they've coupled terrorism with atheism. But this was quite telling:

"NCCM Secretary General added, these pirates benefit from children's lack of awareness, immaturity and their inability to differentiate and weigh the pros and cons of what they get easily through the Internet and social networks."

Translation: We don't want our children to be exposed to anything that opposes our "sincerely held religious beliefs." Propaganda knows no bounds.
