It seems pretty creepy to me. I've never liked submissive women, and this goes way past that.

Thank you for your sensibility.

It would depend entirely upon what one is seeking in a mate. The discussion can't be limited to those who seek a submissive partner, although this would certainly be a selling point for some.

If you think about it, from a scientific stand point, creating a human like cybernetic being which is designed to bond sexually with a specific individual would simply be the act of man taking the wheel in a process which god or nature already carries out.

Two people bond together because the chemicals produced by their respective brains creates an ideal situation where pairing becomes inevitable. Whether that process comes about as a result of god or nature is another debate. But if science one day finds a way to take control of and mimic this process, then it seems to me as though we'll all be infinitely happier. Men and women will be able to produce children in a lab and spend their lives with a cybernetic partner who is designed to be their perfect life mate.

@webbew1 One point. God did not create anything. Just a way for the ignorant to explain an unknown

I don't believe that's really sex...just high tech masturbation. Sex in my mind is a very human thing, two sexualities connecting. I'd rather have one genuine, authentic attraction with a person than an army of sex robots.

2

We're a long, long ways away from developing an artificial life form which is genuinely capable of mimicking those traits which bring about feelings of deep intimacy and fulfilling companionship within us. It's not likely to happen in our lifetimes, and even the youngest of us on this board will likely be very old if it does.

No. I would have no interest in a sex robot. It would be nothing more than a glorified, very expensive Fleshlight.

Did you watch the video. I'm fairly certain the one guy with 3 of them contradicts your statement. To some degree if not completely.

2

Sounds like a "Woody Allen"movie

Sleeper with the Orgasmatron!

2

Nope and never.

2

Whatever floats your boat.

Even rowing in mud?

If you feel you must.

@Maya405 Ummm. There's even websites for that. Well in mud anyway.

2

Well dang! I had an answer all formulated and then you turned the tables by asking if I would use one...

My initial instinct was to answer it's a good idea if it reduces rapes or assuages loneliness for those so plagued.

Would I use one? With no sex in ten years and no prospects (don't do casual hook ups - for my own nonjudgemental reasons), who am I to say never to that? It sort of weirds me out to think about, but I have no hangups about using other hardware to scratch the itch, so... maybe?

Zster Level 8 Dec 27, 2017

Don't you think, in a misogynist male culture, it's not just about 'scratching the itch', so to speak?

I was answering the part about whether or not I would use one. During partnerless phases, I might. Others might have different uses for one, I suppose.

2

fuck that id probably end up with one that gets a headache

Just like in real life?

that's right lol

To each his own. Unfortunately ,any one that derives pleasure from this sort of thing is psychologically unbalanced . But as an idea goes it sure is a good idea for the inventor who is sure to make big bucks from all the nut jobs out there .

By that logic, anyone using vibrators (or any other sex toy) is psychologically unbalanced... where's the line? Seems a little reactionary and puritan to come to that conclusion.

I agree. It is greed and sexism.

"any one that derives pleasure from this sort of thing is psychologically unbalanced"

I think I would argue that being a benefit to society, if it kept them from producing children that could carry those genes. I can think of some other situations these bots could be beneficial. Am I the only one who at times think certain people just should not reproduce?

@Maya405 Is it sexist? In what ways is it sexist? I can see that it objectifies women, there's even a service to have custom faces made for them, but the people involved are already objectifying the subject of their attraction. In addition there are a very small minority who are attracted to the machine itself. What of the versions made for women (apparently there are plenty of customers)? Sex toys in general? The robots do not seem to me to change the existing power imbalance either way. To that end I don't think their production can be classed as sexist. Some of their users will be, but not all.

@William_Mary an actual eugenicist AND happy to admit it? Wow! (not a good wow)

This reminded me of a comedy titled "Lars and the Real Girl". The plot seemed crazy but it was a fun and interesting movie.

I've said it before that people would be happier and healthier when they had more sex. If people are against prostitution then why not sex robots. I believe it would help reduce rape and sexual violence. It will also take money out of many prostitutes pockets. What will they do now for money?

SamL Level 7 Dec 27, 2017

The 'people' are going to be as 'healthier and happier' with robot sex as they are with masterbation and prostitution..

It would reduce rape and sexual violence only if the motivation for such is just sexual. If the motivation for rape and sexual violence is more like domination then a robot will not do.

1

I think it is a good idea, no different to any other sex toy. When you consider what else is around, prostitution, phone sex, virtual sex, sexting, all forms of pornography. I hope it may reduce rape and exploitation.

It's not going to reduce either rape or exploitation, rather it'll add to it.

Speculative nonsense.

1

Predict that the company selling them will fail, quickly.

I so wish that your predictions come true.

@Maya405 I do not understand how any human would want to have sex with a robot. It is he emotional intimacy with another human being that makes good sex so enjoyable.

There goes the "inflatable babe " industry. Lol

Not necessarily... they might be more affordable than the robots.

1

It seems it will be inevitable in some form - regardless of what anyone thinks. And in spite of a certain creepy aspect , I do see the appeal - to loner types, those that just can't get enough, invalids, closet kinksters etc .

In fact, if they made a really good male version ... who knows ?

apparently they do, with detachable bits.

If something so based in gender exploitation appears inevitable, should we not even protest?

@Maya405 I suspect there will be male robots too ... And if everbody's happy , why would this be exploitation ?

0

Ah this is the company that makes "The Real Doll". Watched a program on people who live with them and treat them like people (ie put them in the car and belt them in for a ride) etc... That's taking it a bit far. As a masturbatory tool - I have no problem with these - except for the expense, (Also they make male dolls as well). I don't think it's any weirder than using a vibrator - until you start seating it at the table to eat meals with you etc.... Also just doesn't fit in that drawer by the bed!

0

No different than a dildo.

0

If I was really into sex, I would rather use it than go out and get a disease. Since I really don't care about sex, I wouldnt need to use it.

0

frank zappa has a great song about that. Cyborg on joe's garage act 2 .for me - " ain't nothing like the real thing baby"

0

As I was told as a child "66 % of those polled will admit that they masturbate, 33 % are liars, and 1 % are inconclusive." It's really just that until and unless artificial intelligence becomes a reality worthy of equality to a natural human "person."

0

no, you can't beat the closestness, touchy feely side, probaly ok if you go straight in to sex, i like kissing and working your way up to the moment etc,

0

I would imagine that they will be available for both men and women. Now, if you are a woman and some guy is giving you unwanted attention you could always say to him, go virtual reality yourself.
